got my Jeff Tanner mould, now what?

I just got a Jeff Tanner mould for my .56 cal T/C renegade and the blocks look great, but what handles do I use for them? Also is there any thing on these blocks I need to lube before I use them? Thanks in advance, Dick

    Period Gardening

This year WE(me) are going to raise aztec blue corn, brandywine tomatos, chile tepins, and probably every other heirloom variety of veggie I can find. Is it just me or do these old time varieties taste better. :hmm:

A general rule of thumb is an equal amout of shot to powder, or slightly more shot than powder.

    Smoothbore barrel for GPR

Track of the wolf can make you up a GPR smoothie in 50 or 54 cal. The GPR has 15/16 barrel so the .62 won't fit as it is 1" across the flats. I ended up buying a .56 T/C Renegade smoothie so if I want a bigger bore I can get it as it is 1" across the flats.

    what to do?

I just bought an old .56 cal that is in great shape and I could not be happier. If you want one I have seen the barrels on gun broker for 68.00. It is cheaper than a Green mountain, but you'll probably need to buy a mould for it if you shoot it a lot. What ever caliber you choose I guarantee you...

    Your Blackpowder Hunting Mentor?

I would have too say it was a few people who got the fire started. First was my dad, we built a 45 cal. Kentucky rifle from a kit when I was 13. From that point on I decided I would one day have my own. Years passed, and when I was 23 I found Bob Spencers web page and from reading it I decided...

    Truly big bore smoothie

Some day if I get rich i'll get one of those october country double 8's but realistically a Smoothbore 4 bore is in my range at 750.00. William Cotton Oswell used a double 10 bore smoothie for his adventures in Afica. For him, being in range meant being 20-30 paces away from the beast. I think...

    Truly big bore smoothie

350 grains is light, F.C. Selous had a pair of Dutch made 4 bore guns that he used 16-18 drams (437-500gr) of powder in front of a 1750gr ball :youcrazy:. Selous was also quoted as saying "They kicked most frightfully, and in my case the punishment I recieved from these guns has affected my...

    Truly big bore smoothie

I was looking at auction arms and they had a underhammer smoothbore 4 bore :shocking: for $750.00. It handles a 350gr charge :shocking: Have any of you fired a 8+ bore gun? If so please share your experiences. If had'nt just bought a new toy i'd consider getting one (here I come africa). I think...

    green mountain drop in barrels

I know not about the 54 but there was a guy on this forum named Cayugad who bought a .62 smoothbore he reported decent accuracy to about 40 yards if I remember correctly.

CO2 Cartridges to Clear Barrel Obstructions

Get one, they are great. I used mine once to get a maxiball out of my dads GPR. Came out no problem.

    Remington Caps

I have used nothing but cci magnums since I first started shooting sootbuners with excelent results. :peace: my friends have had some trouble with remingtons, but who knows if they cleaned the bore well enough before firing.

Woo Hoo I am a kid again!

I love muzzleloaders, my "modern" guns keep getting less and less attention. I keep selling cartridge guns to have money to buy muzzleloaders. The cool thing about this hobby is the more I get into it, the more history I seem to be learning. If my history teacher had just given me a musket to...

Woo Hoo I am a kid again!

I won my auction! I got my renegade smoothbore! :D The guy who was selling it said it was in great shape, the pics look it too. Now the wait for the man in the brown van. This is the most excited I have been about a gun in a long time. I can already taste the fat doe I intend to shoot with it...

    Moulds for .550 round balls

I think this is a situation where you would need to have dixie gun works or jeff tanner make you a mould. That is what i'll most likely end up doing. I'll probly end up with a dixie mould cause they be cheaper. :peace:

    T/C smoothbore renegade?

No problem, I just got me a Lee production pot IV today and either get a dixie gun works mould or a Jeff Tanner mould. I am really cheap so unless any of you have a bad opinion of the DGW mould i'll probably just get it. My Dad has a .535 ball mould I might try in it too.
