    Browning a barrel?

    degrase the barrel, plug both ends and the vent hole or nipple. I use a propane torch heat it up till a drop of water sizzles then wipe on the browning with a rag. Gives a good deep brown

    how do you store your powder?

    We are stocking up on lead, patch material, caps for my son and knapped flints as well as flint nodules and powder. I have a old army morter shell case steel case brass and copper lined to reduce sparks this is inside a wood box. holds 32 one pound cans.Powder safes are pricy any other ideas?

    Thanks for the info Preacher! I can't believe how out of touch I had gotten. It's a thrill to be doing this again my son went with at 5 years of age now he is 30!     What do you pay for scrap lead?

    I came across a cable contractor replacing old telephone cables, back in the day the cables were in lead jackets. I got several 100lbs just for picking it up and melting it into bars. Check with your local phone company, if they are replacing cable ask to be contacted

    Sure they did,i use my tore up wore out cotton shirts for char, I'm sure they did too. There is a certain tree fungus that works also, I have used frayed hemp rope to catch sparks, also old rat nests. Try out different things you may be surprised

    my son bought a dixie gun works Tower pistol for $100 [I know lucky little bast**d] brand new this is from 1976 or so I found it in my 1976 Dixie catalog. the hammer needs to be re adjusted when itis fired it looks like its on 1/2 cock I workon my flinter but any info onthis would be helpful thanx

    How many here use only their balck powder guns for deer hunting?
