    Lead purity question additional info.

FROM J.D.R Additional information on non-pure lead balls. When I posted the question about using non-pure lead balls, I did not indicate my intentions. They are used strictly for target and matches, not hunting. Last week I took several sets of 54 cal. balls to the range and conducted a...

    lead purity question

This question has to do with the purity of the lead used to cast round balls. I obtained 200 pounds of wheel weights for almost free and melted them down into 2 pound ingots. What I discovered was when I started casting 54 cal. round balls they weighted only 219.5 grains instead of 223 grains...

    REAL lead cost what??

I used both stick on and regular weights and melted them together in to 2 lb blocks. I'm going to have a friend measure the hardness and will report on his findings. I have noticed the balls are a little harder to load but appear to shoot at the same place on the target. Will report on...

    REAL lead cost what??

I been purchasing used wheel weights from my local tire shop for $20 for 200 lbs. When you melt them down you get about 18 to 19 lbs of material for 20 lbs of weights. In a .54 RB that is 100% lead it would be 224 grains you have a RB of 219.5 grains. I figure the patch protects the bore so...

    FFg versus FFFg

 FFg versus FFFg. I have a great amount of FFFg Goex powder and would like to use it in a Green Mountain .54 cal. barrel for 100 yard target scooting. Has anyone ever tried this and if so how much powder is a good light load? Send me your recommendations directly please. Thanks, Jerry

Patches? We Don' Need No Steenkin Patches . . .

I found great 100% cotton material at a fabric shop called JoAnn's. They are a chain store so there should be one near you. My wife helped me with the selection and she indicated the thread count was 350. Very tight! I have used about one half yard and that made about 400 patches for a .40...

thinking of a T/C renegade(used) , what is good price?

I have a T/C Hawken I purchased in a pone shop for $95.00 with a very good barrel and double set triggers. The blueing was a lettle worn but repairable. I would look around some more. Better guns are out there. Test fire any gun you are interested in. If the owner will not let you test...

GM 36/40 barrels for TC Hawken?

With regards to the .40 cal GM I purchased mine in June 06 and just love the "no" recoil and extreme accurcy at 50 and 100 yards. Under 3/4" at 50 and 1-1/8" at 100 yards. Mine is the 1" across the flats, the target verson and I paid $170.00 plus$10.00 shipping. I was a drop-in in my Cleland...
