Loads for T/C Hawken 50 cal

I have only used FFg in my Hawken so far and it likes 65 grains (volume). If the grains to dram is the same between FFFg and FFg my load computes at 2.4 dram of FFg. Backing my load down for FFFg would equal 2 drams. I tried 70 and 75 grains but never saw better accuracy. I didn't try a...

    Hawken keeps getting better

Way to go Dave. Looks like you're on the right track. A couple more range sessions and I'd say your set

Suggestions and expiriences with a .62 flinter

Kirrmeister, If needed, don't you have a Drahthaar you can use to help you find game? Doug

I got to handle a 20 gauge fowler

Thanks for posting the photos. That helps me a lot. I'm pretty sure what route I'm going to take but I have to sleep on it a couple more days before I order something. It will be a flintlock. I bought a telescoping paint roller extension handle to carry through the woods while I'm exercising...

    Rust Problem on Plains Rifle

Your results mirror mine. I've tried using Ballistol only but always seem to get an orange tinted patch out later after the cleaning. When I use CLP after cleaning I never see a hint of orange. I always just run a few dry patched down the barrel before shooting it. So far, so good.

    Carrying steel shot cup loads...

That's pretty neat. Thanks for sharing the link.

I got to handle a 20 gauge fowler

OK, we're all in agreement I need a Fowler. I don't doubt the balance or the tighter patterns of the full length barrel. Maybe I'm trying for a Jack of all trades, Master of none. :hmm:

I got to handle a 20 gauge fowler

No, I'm not ready to buy a flinter yet because I'm having a terrible time making up my mind what to get. I was glad to handle that fowler because it taught me that I don't want something that long in the Grouse woods. It would be great for pheasant or turkey though and really felt right in...

I got to handle a 20 gauge fowler

I was up in Pleasant Valley, NY today (nice place!) and stopped in a gunshop Quattro's. They had what I'd guess to be an original cap lock fowler in 20 gauge. I've never held one before. They also had two older looking rifles but I didn't ask to see them. I don't remember the maker or the...

    Dixon's Fair

I must have been blocking your view a bit. Did you catch any glare off my baldspot? I'm new to BP so I was a bit overwhelmed and most of the vendors were just too busy for me to get a feel of what I'm looking for. I'll have to make it back to Dixon's to get a better idea of what I...

    Dixon's Fair

I lost the photos but did manage not to screw up this video: Beaver Bill Making a Tomahawk from a rifle barrel I got there a bit late but you get some feel for it.

finally... my fowler is done (w/pics)

Well Done! I really like the pineapple behind the tang. Please don't cut that smoothie up with the saw  Best of luck with her, she's a beauty.

    Shotgunning on a budget?

I decided that there simply isn't a real inexpensive way to get into muzzleloading shotguns. So I looked around and bought a used Pedersoli 12 gauge SXS to cut my teeth with. This is the Pedersoli 12 gauge SXS I figure it will teach me what I really want in a Shotgun. It looks pretty nice...

Finally learning to shoot my smoothbore

I'm glad you're getting it sorted out. That smoothbore is just too nice looking not to shoot and fully enjoy it. I'm sure next time you'll do even better.

    Ordered my Deerhunter Rifle today!

Congratulations on the new rifle. I look forward to reading about it. Best of luck with it, Doug

    Dang those flints are sharp

I was also fighting the rain this past Saturday. I didn't cut myself but I can only guess how much blood I donated to the bugs. I'm all bumpy and itchy now.

What a day at the range!

I didn't know the powder could be dried out. I just let it out on the ground. I hope to get back out to the range on Friday. This TC Hawken has created a terrible itch. I put on a nice and narrow front sight (it had a fiber optic front on it) but it still looks as wide as the 6"...
