Used and not used a drop tube in my rifle. Seemed to make no difference out to 100 yards. Dispensed with it now, my paper cartridges and thus patched bullets work best for me. Horses for courses, you’ll need to find your own horse! 😉🥳👍👍👍

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Started on some walnut grips for one of my NMN. The wood is barely thick enough so I plan a brass in-between

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Found out that one of my NMN’s doesn’t like the ‘new’ bullets with 15gn Swiss 2 behind them. the 7 ring is 2 3/4” - three rounds went off target completely at 15 yards! probably needs less powder, what do you guys think? the barrel IS pitted, it was a cheap gun.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Actually made it into my shed to do some casting for the first time since I went crock in August. TOW sent me a Lee 375-130-6C mould a while back. Being a 6 cavity meant that I spent more time waiting for the lead to melt than I did casting 100 bullets. Test run tomorrow.

To answer the question ‘Does black powder cause rust.” the answer is simply “No!” Moisture, chemical reaction initiated by something cause rust. 😉😘

What do you use to keeps nipples from seizing?

PTFE on my rifle, copper slip on my pistols. I take the nipples out as soon as I can after shooting.

    Casting Issue

I cast .620 ball. Your marks indicate that the mold is too cold. Keep the mold on the furnace while heating up and between pours. I have also drilled out the pour hole by one drill size (I can't remember the size, it was years ago, sorry). HTH?

Anyone think this would look good on the front of a pietta navy?

I have always used the term Patridge (name of the inventor) not Partridge. A patride sight is undercutat an angle so that the edge facing you is in shadow. Clearer sight picture, no good in a holster as it snags too easily.

Anyone ever experienced burning embers in your barrel after a shot?

I was taught to, and did, blow down the muzzle. Lady luck was, I believe, sitting on my shoulder. I don’t do it now. Lyman book says this:- Caplocks: After firing leave the hammer down over the exploded cap as you reload. This helps smother any sparks left from the preceding shot. Keep your...
