    GPR Kit in the white

Have about a half dozen coats of danish oil on the stock. It has some figure that might be better served if I had stained it a bit. I added the metal in the white to see what she looks like.... gonna give the metal a vinegar finish.

    Storing BP in Freezer?

So what if you have an old refrigerator in a DAMP basement... house is pretty old with a stone foundation and a brick basement floor. It's always damp down there, but short of building a magazine outside I really don't have a convenient place to store larger volumes of powder... I'm figuring to...

    Flint lock replacement by L&R

so given that my Lyman GPR lock looks identical to the old style TC,,,,, what mods could\should I make to it. I put the factory flint in and tried it bevel up and down... best case is that it will strike the middle of the frizzen at a fairly sharp angle with the bevel opposite of what is...

    Flint lock replacement by L&R

So now I'm worried.....that picture of the old style TC looks exactly like the new Lyman GPR lock that I have sitting in my hand right now. I'm in the process of finishing the stock and will do the metal soon... now I wonder if I should just slap it all together and sell it.... I was looking at...

    bedding compounds ???

That stuff will work as it's just filling in gaps and not absorbing recoil.... I've used them, along with bisonite, brownells steel bed and acraglas. I currently use Devcon to bed my rifles and carnuba wax for a release agent.

    barrel break in...

Paul, Isn't it sacreligious and just plain not PC to bed barrel? :nono: :hmm: :rotf: But seriously, This is a good suggestion and since it's a hook breech you may want to bed the Tang and possibly give the stock some "slight draw" on the barrel similar to the M1\M14 bedding so that the...

    Rust in bore

Arky,,, I have a link somewhere to tests done comparing WD40 to some of the newer "gun Specific" rust inhibitors.... May have saved it as a PDF and will look for it or a link later.... The gist of it is that WD40 whupped 'em all hands down... I can't see usuing anything else day to day... longer...

    Barrel Conditioning

Paul, How would you go about slugging the ML barrel? I suggested using cerrosafe in another thread... When I've done CF bolt guns, I was able to push the slug straight through and "feel" anytight spots.... Since we only have access from one end it complicates matters...

    Lyman GPR vs Trade rifle

My target rifle background wants to have the sights as dark flat black as possible to be able to see them clearly.... If I do them that way and don't like them it's no big deal to polish and start again... I kinda flipping thoughts and ideas at you guys for feedback and, well, let's see what...

    Barrel Conditioning

Good to know Stumpkiller.... I was wonderign what I was gonna use to do the initial cleanup on barrel in my new GPR KIT. I've been debating about hand lapping or firelapping as I have the NECO kit that the came out about the same time as LPB kit - may be one in the same. I've done the full...

    Lyman GPR vs Trade rifle

Yep, that's the standard way of mass manufacturing these days... not gonna knock the Italian or Spanish gun manufactures without cause, they do make some pretty fine OU and SxS shotguns over there - just maybe not by InvestArms. I know that there is a lot mnore work to the high end kits which...

    Lyman GPR vs Trade rifle

Mykeal, I'm a referee..... I don't get upset too easy at harsh words.... :shocked2: Wouldn't last too long if I did. Besides, nothing harsh in your comments, just smarta$$ - like me  The kit wasn't too far from what I expected - really. I've said before that I don't have any qualms about...

MYTH BUSTING: recoil associated with cresent shaped butt plates

Got it, put the puppy together to see what she'll be like (love the weight and ballance). HATE the Cresent butt... when I shoulder it, it bites me in the right pectoral. I'll give it a go as is for the build, but reserve the right to defang it and make it fit my shooting style and body as needed...
