    Stock Inletting Question

I'm confused here. No offence, but why would one want to stick a tooth in a gun stock? Is there some kinda significance to that or was it common practice back in the day? :hmm: just curious

    Lesson learned about caps

Nipples and caps will vary slightly from one manufacturer to the next even if their both labeled #11 for example. The trick is to find the right combination that works together well.

    What is it ?

Thanks for the suggestions. As for the screw,I'll come up with something. The trigger plate is also stripped so I'll get something alittle over size and tap it out. If I can't find a replacement ram rod, I'll just make a new one outta 1/4 steel rod. The big problem is trying to get the red...

    What is it ?

Thankyou all for the help. Especially for providing the extra info on it. Took it all apart to do a major clean-up and will get it operational. After doing alittle more research I find this piece to be far from a replica copy, but being as old as it is, it's somewhat of a relic in it self. The...

    What is it ?

I just aquired this pistol. I was told it was my grandfathers. It seems to be an unfinished kit gun but has no markings anywhere except the back of the lock plate says "Spain" on it. I believe it's .45 cal. I think it can be made shootable. Any info on it would be apperciated. (Having upload...

    Tools

One doesn't need to go out and buy it all at once. Get your kit/parts first then get what you need as you go along. It's a learning experience as well as a building experience. If you really get into and love this hobby, cost is irrelivent.

    Cabela's Hawken Rifle trigger problem

Another thing to check as I've had a similar situation. Pull the trigger out and look into the slot and you'll see the sear lever. make sure there is enough space around it when cocking the hammer back. Then check to make sure there is enough space between the end of the arm and the stock. Hold...

Browning a color case hardened lock

I just finished browning a color cased lock like that. Get your self some sno-bowl toilet cleaner, a glass jar and soak the parts in it awhile. Scrub with a good stiff brush in a well ventilated area with rubber gloves. It will take the bluing right off. Rinse well with hot water. Depending on...

    underlug dovetail too big

Also, an easy non-traditional fix to a loose fitting lug is to thoroughly clean both surfaces with alcohol and use a little JB weld on it. It mixes up like epoxy and it won't come loose.

    Iron furniture for Hawken???

I believe the Hawken and Renegade trigger gaurds are the same. One is brass and the other is blued steel. The conversion gaurd from the Hawken shop does fit and looks more authentic but it's a rough cast piece that will require alittle bit of filing and finishing. Same goes with the conversion...

    Refitting a t/c flintlock with a davis

Funny thing, I was going to change out my T/C lock with a L&R RPL because I thought it would be a "better" lock. It's not a 100% exact drop in replacement. A little mortising/fitting is required, but nothing major. Personally, when I compared the two. I found the T/C lock to be better built and...

    Safe Black Powder Storage?

Just wondering where you all keep your black powder? (not talking what's in your horns) I used to keep mine in the gun safe but I'm running out of room. Not to keen on just leaving it sitting on a shelf in my basement workshop. Maybe in Ammo boxes?

    Pitting in barrel

Pitting is the result of the fowling and or rust eating away the metal causing small pits in the barrel. Just like cavities in teeth. Thoroughly cleaning out the barrel and applying a protective coating after a days shooting will prevent this.

Not a biggie. Glue in a 1/8" wood dowel or a toothpick. Let it dry overnight and try again.

    L&R Lock and other stuff

If you got a replacment T/C stock, then it's of course inletted for "T/C" parts. You can use replacement T/C parts such as the L&R lock and trigger. The L&R RPL T/C lock is the same as their regular ones, it just has the T/C size plate. If you want a more Hawken style iron trigger gaurd that...
