I can't wait till the big brown truck gets here tomorrow! Ordered one of the 1851 .44 cal Confederate Navy revolvers from Cabela's, while you can get it for $99 after coupon. I don't have any roundballs for it yet, but I'm just excited it gets delivered tomorrow! I always like it when I'm buying guns! Should I do a total tear down and clean it good first?

I ordered one of them a couple weeks ago. Liked it so well i ordered another. Good shooter with 27 grs of 3f Goex, a Wonder Wad, and .454 ball. Mine uses #11 CCI caps. Would hurt to clean it good before shooting it, especially the bore. Have fun.

Well, I got the pistol! It is really soaked with oil. The only guns I've gotten that were more messy are my milsurp guns that are packed in cosmoline. I've gotten some of it cleaned up, and will clean the bore and cylinders next. I've seen some folks fire .451 balls, and some the .454. I wonder which will be better, and will it really matter? Any info is much appreciated. Anyway, the gun is really pretty, and looks like good workmanship, but could use a little buffing here and there.

Mine did really well with a .454 ball. I used 25-27 grs of 3f Goex, some Cream of Wheat filler and the ball and CCI #11 caps.

Whether or not there's a difference between a .451 & a .454 depends on the gun.

If the .451 shaves off a complete ring of lead when loaded into the chamber then it shouldn't matter a great deal; the .451 will be easier to load and have just a bit more muzzle velocity. If the shaved ring is incomplete then you need the .454.

I ordered one in 1970 from Navy Arms for around $35 if I remember right. Came with a brass mold ( 2 cavity one round one conical)and a one page typed instruction sheet.
I couldn't have had more fun than I had with that revolver that summer. My friends had never seen anything like it, my mother griped about the black residue in her cooking pots, and I burned my fingers repetedly molding bullets on the kitchen stove. I learned first hand what a chain fire was. Lots of bang for the buck.
Hope ya'll enjoy those new revolvers!

Coupon??? Coupon??? What coupon? I didn't get no stinkin' coupon......and I want one. Where did you get it? :rotf:

No more $20 off rebate coupons but they are still on sale for $114.99. Still not a bad deal. Check Cabelas on line for them.

I have one. Not a bad shooter. Don't get your hopes up too high. You get what you pay for.

I just looked at the pistol at Cabela's online, and it says on sale for 119.99, plus there was a $30 off coupon to the right of the pistol. You click on the pistol from the page showing all pistols, and when that screen comes up, there are several buying options at the bottom, and if you select the one for pistol only, no starter kit, when it brings that page up, that is where I see a $30 savings to the right. It was only $20 savings when I bought mine week before last.

How do I go about using the $30 off coupon?
I just went thru the whole checkput process ordering one of the $119 1851's and it never gave me the option of using any discount coupon anywhere :idunno:
I tried clicking on the coupon etc and after 20 minutes of trying and searching I gave up and just added it to my wish list.If I or someone can figure out how to get it to work I will buy one ASAP..Actually the $119 is incentive enough to get me to buy one but $30 off that would be even better...

Just give it a blast with some brake cleaner. That will take all the grease off pronto.

Just don't forget that all guns need some oil on them to prevent rust.

This is especially true if a strong degreaser like Disk Brake cleaner is used on them.

I like Barricade but any good gun oil will work if it is applied very thin.

When I went through checkout, I believe it was on the payment information page, there was a line to click on for using Cabela's bucks, or rebate, and when I clicked on that, I think it emailed me a code to use to get the $20 off rebate, and then it asked me to enter that before it was final. I'm going by memory here, so can't be totally exact.

Call em and ask...

I called em and the guy said the $30 one shot coupon is already figured into the price making it $119.99..He really didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about though..

I ordered one on line for $119.99 plus $14.99 shipping and they gave me a presentation case free
