Genetically embedded.There's a flintlock guy genetically imbedded deep down in us - in our DNA. It got in there because it was the primary arm of our ancestors from the mid 14th century snaplocks up until the mid 1800's; 250+ years. It's now part of our instinct, sorta like the enjoyable feeling we get when we get a whiff of something cooking on a campfire - ancient man did that for a long time and we genetically remember it...
I hear ya, Ed, I'm a cap gun guy myself, but I woke up this morning with 3 flintlocks (how in the heck did I let that happen!?!?). See above; it's like Covid, we'll all get it eventually, it's unavoidable.
