Your set up is nice.
Sounds like you have a fine selection of muzzleloader. I'd like to see the .32 Ohio Half stalk.
Keep her going, my fellow Muzzleloading Squirrel Hunting Friend!

Has Jim K sent you a PM yet?
I told myself if I shoot a black squirrel I'm going to gift it to Jim so he can mount it and put it in his shop.

Thanks Tom. That’s mighty thoughtful. I have a roadkilled one I got in Michigan in my shop and I mounted one today for a fella ( a nice way to end 2024). But man, I want to shoot one!!

So a Happy New Year to all of our squirrel hunting friends on here.

Just a reminder to mark your new calendar for January 21st as the National Squirrel Appreciation day. :)

If the 21st was on a Saturday or Sunday I'd be able to celebrate National Squirrel Appreciation Day the correct way. I'll be working😒
But I'll still honor the little Critters

I have a few in the freezer. Just have to decide if I'm going to appreciate them with biscuits, or cornbread 🤔

No squirrels shot.
I sent the last 3 hours of daylight in the woods on the last day of 2024, and the last 3 hours of daylight on the first day of 2025.
The trees are full of leaves still, and it was more than just breezy out. One night I saw 3 , next night I saw 6. Most out of range the others just glimpses as scurried about in the tree tops. Although no squirrels I truly enjoyed the time spent just chilling out and think of another year ending and as a new one begins.
We all had some good times and some bad times. We all know that both are a head of us as we inter the beginning of 2025, damn nert a quarter of a century into the 21st century. We chose to hunt the old way clinging on to the Traditional Way of Hunting Squirrels and other quarry.
I feel fortunate to have met all you guys. I'm look forward for us to continue to chat about our muzzleloading squirrel hunts.
I'll be going any chance I get. Work consumes a lot of my time and it seems there always some chores to do plus I can't just throw the wife in the corner like an old boot. She can't go with like she used too.
So let's stand strong and continue to share our hunting stories. PRBs or Shotguns, popping caps or sparks from a flint. Let's keep the stories going and share ideas.

Take Care Stay Safe

What happened to @ScottK and @Hermit Tim ?
Where'd you guys go?
I'm so sorry for the absence guys...

I had some huge issues with extended family that involved, bail, medical bills and interstate travel. All right as the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season started. It caused a lot of stress and heartache. My son and I also missed deer season in it's entirety because of all this.

I was actually going to pop back on this weekend to say hello but got an email prompt when you mentioned me. The short story is all is now good, my immediate family and I are all fine and I will be back and posting more soon. I can't wait to catch up on this thread!

The good thing about deer season being over is that I will have two months of empty woods to chase rabbits and squirrels in. I've never even seen another hunter in January or February up here.

We did get the Crockett out for some testing, and with all of your help/advice, dialing in in took less than an hour! My son even surprised me and said he wants to shoot that one when we go out. He normally will pick the more modern option,,,

I hope you were all blessed with a wonderful holiday season!

Thanks
Scott

welcome back.

Plan is being formulated to get back out again. I have a new area to try that is an off the radar WMA that does not stock Pheasant. The last couple of seasons, the pheasant hunters in my normal spot have been growing in number, and have figured out that they can pop rabbits and squirrels while out hunting the birds. The area was picked clean last year and I expect the same will be true now.

We are going to scout it on Saturday and hunt the following Saturday once we get the lay of the land and do some tracking. Temps will be in the teens early and not getting above freezing, so expecting that the game will be up and about a bit later in the morning than they would be if it was warmer.

I will report back, so wish us luck!
