Whatever you use, I think the most important thing is to wait a couple of days after a complete cleaning, and then run a couple patches down the bore to check for any discoloration, and then apply, or reapply your product of choice.
Having heard the praises of Mobile one synthetic oil for a rust preventive I have given it a try lately.
Regardless of what I use..., whether I cleaned and WD-40'd the barrel when going to shoot the following day, or if I was at some event and didn't have the WD-40 or Barricade and used sweet oil (olive oil), or if I used Barricade or something else and let the rifle or musket sit for a while..., I always run a dry patch, followed by a damp patch and then several dry patches down the bore before shooting. Never had any problems with anything I used as "preventative".Do you thoroughly clean it out before shooting again?
