If CO's had to wear blaze orange the poachers would see em and not get caught.

The guy that poached this 12 pointer never saw the CO coming.

The CPOs do a tough job. No doubt about it. And you're probly right... sometimes. I still think they oughta at least wear an orange hat.
Maybe if you COULD see 'em IN the WOODS more poachers would think twice before they break the law. :hmm: Besides, how would you tell 'em from every other hunter in the punkin patch? No orange would make 'em stand out more, once you see 'em, in my opinion.
If I was a CPO, I'd wear orange hat and vest, carry a rifle/shotgun and blend right in with the crowd... until I flashed my badge. I'd get me a deer tag too. Might as well hunt deer while I'm huntin' criminals.

I've met wardens in the woods with blaze orange vests and I personally think it is a good idea.

I know of a man who had accidentally shot a game warden in Connecticut. They had been hunting on private land some distance from the road and this warden wore head to toe camoflage.

This man mistook him for a deer and he was killed. I know one should check your target at all times, but things would have been different had the warden wore an article of orange clothing.

in my opinion....you can not justify a man shootin a man cause the guy didn't have orange on...that's just wrong, and it's makin excuses fer pure outright stupidity and carelessness! identify yer target! anyman i've ever seen didn't lok nothin like a deer..and please don't bring up "it sounded like a deer" that's defined as "sound shooting" and it's wrong! no excuses! if a man gets shot, because he is behind a target, especially a movin target(runnin deer)preferably a second or third shot..(why do i love ml's!) that is an accident,to deliberately shoot, with yer first shot,a man, that looks? sounds? like a deer? that is just plain murder!

This man mistook him for a deer and he was killed.

Sorry I just find that an absurd statement unfortunately made by tomany people.

Dangit RC, ya was sposed to keep the wind back there in N.Y. Nothing came out to play tonight.

maybe yer heaters too loud! or they're figurin yer serious? or they really didn't figure you'd be out on a day like today, besides i told ya to watch...the monitor! :shocked2:

This might not apply to the huge tracts of public land in the West. But in the East, the blaze has definitely saved lives. Deer drives, running shots with buck-shot, overpopulated woods and fields, etc. its not uncommon to see dozens of other hunters in a day.
Lets take a different look at it for a bit. If I'm still hunting and see some blaze on the other side of a ridge/field/gully, I would realize that someone else was hunting there and would try to walk around that loaction; and this can easily be done well before I get close enough to spook any potential shots the other hunter has developing.
On the other hand, I have (many times) walked up on a hunter that figured he didn't have to wear blaze once he got to his stand location. Usually didn't see them until I was within 10 yards. Some were nice and we chatted for a while, others were annoyed that I "ruined" their spot.
Just a different point of view.

well, i've never got upset cause someone walked close to me...unless i'm on my land.. if not then it's their woods too,, as far as east? adirondacks is a pretty big chunk of land,,which i believe orange ain't gonna help ya much, can't see that far.. but the point is/was that if it is made a law you have to wear it (ahhhhhhh.. mho) everyone should have too! hikers bikers horseback.ers,4 wheelers skiers.. etc...jes dressin up hunters is well..dumb! imho.. RC

Thats the law here, anyone on State lands during the firearms season for whatever reason, must wear blaze orange. Amazing how many are ignorant to that though.

I have an old blaze orange blanket with a hole cut for my head. I belt it at the waist and then the straps from my bag and horn go on over it. It isn't shiney, and I have slipped up on deer wearing it. I also had a big doe at the big farm that could see it plain as heck dead still over 100 yards away in the woods with me not even blinking. I wear it because it is the law. I wore a helmet when I rode because it was the law. When I crossed the bridge out of state, off it came unless it was cold.

I'v been told they see blaze orange as a kind of cream colour, But I'v beentold deer see blue. Regards Dave T.
