Sorry I let November get away from me without posting a new contest. Here's an extra challenging one to make up for it. :haha:

The object is to "decorate" the Christmas tree with roundballs.

The target is a tough one!

Fold a sheet of 8.5x11" printer paper in half lengthwise, then fold it lengthwise again. Then unfold it and fold it top to bottom. You can then use the creases to draw your target. Or... you could just measure with a ruler.
Draw your target by starting at the center and drawing a triangle that goes down to each of the 1/4-page creases at the bottom. Then section it off an inch apart starting at the top of the "tree".
Your target should end up looking like this;

Take 5 shots, offhand, at 25 yards.

The scoring "rings" are numbered in the example target. Any shot that hits with the center of the ball outside of the "tree", or off the edge of the paper, will score a zero.

High score wins!

One target entry per member.

5 shots per target, hit or miss.

Mutilated targets and targets with more than 5 holes will be disqualified.

No do-overs.

Only registered forum members may participate.

Only traditional, open iron sighted muzzleloading firearms (NO Cannons). Percussion or flintlock, matchlock or wheel lock ignition.

Single patched round ball only. No restrictions on caliber. (a patchless ball may be used if so desired)

Shots will be taken off-hand at the stated distance.(Standing or seated is allowed, elbows unsupported by anything other than the shooters torso)(In the event that a member is not physically able to hold his rifle up unsupported, a "prop-rod" that is supported only by the shooters torso, no part of which prop-rod may touch the ground, may be used to hold up the fore-end of the rifle)

Only original targets will be accepted. No copies, faxes, scans, etc.

The center of the target will be determined by the judge.

Judges decisions are final.

Each contestant's score will be posted at the end of the contest.

Your member screen name must be written on your targets.

Mail your target postmarked by January 2, 2017 to;

Targets will not be returned unless an S.A.S.E. is included.

Be safe and have fun! :hatsoff:

Now, do you take a chance and try for the high score and maybe take a miss? Or do you try for the easier, lower score with less chance of a miss? :hmm:

:blah: :rotf: Good luck.

Mavin, I beleeves you to be correct. I also am baginnin to beleev Jethro might be showin ta be a bit touched.:hmm: My understanding of the writed English talkin leads me ta this beleevin. :shocked2: Here 'tis. Jethro writed; Judges decisions are final. Judges, as writed, is plural, meanin more than one JUDGE. If writed as Judges' decisions etc, would mean the DECISION of the JUDGE, one of them. We all knows Jethro is THE JUDGE, So Jethro be a displayin what docs call duel personality, bein one guy, thinkin he's two guys. :hmm: Hmmmm. We best git him t' slow down a bit and not strain the gray head inerds.:nono: Or, perty soon he be makin three o' more targets, and a fergitin what he already done did make as a contest. That might be a hoot!:shake: But we gots to think of they good heart that 'er feller has. We gots to make shor he done stays calmed. This here's one them times I got burr spurred :rotf: to put in $.02 I ain't gots. :2 Jist another mindless thought.:slap: :rotf: :rotf:

Jack / Maven, you hit the nail on the head. I believe the term for a sick pup like Jethro is bi-polar. Sometimes he is Jethro and other times well you see the craziness :youcrazy: in his posts and forgetting stuff like the November contest. One side of him doesn't remember what the other side said. :hmm: :rotf:

Jack, sure wish I could spell proper like you but just don't have that talent. :rotf:

If memory serves me correctly the tree is half the size it was originally. :nono:

We got lots bigger trees down here in Tn. if you need to borrow one.

And do we have to make the bottom of the tree so lop sided? :rotf: :idunno:

Not that I'll be a aimin' that low anyway, Of course the way I been shootin'at deer I should aim at the 5 zone and would most likely end up in the 10 ring!.....er' triangle in this case. :shocked2: :idunno:  :bull:

Well, the tree is half the HEIGHT it was last time. My brains ain't up to the math but I'm purty sure that makes it way less than half the SIZE.

You don't hafta make yours crooked. One of me was probly feelin' a little lopsided when I stuffed it in the scanner last night. :idunno: :surrender:

If it was me shootin' at this target, I'd put a deer target right behind it. That way I'd be sure to center the tree. :haha:

For what it's worth, I tried 3/4", 1", and finally 7/8" spacing between the lines. Tain't perfect, as it makes the 5-"ring" a tad larger than the others. 1" spacing, OTOH, makes for a smaller 5-ring. :rotf:

Wish I cud write as gud as Jack!

You're supposed to use 1" spacing. Yep, the 5 "ring" will be a bit smaller than the rest. That's OK tho 'cause you'll be sure to only use the 10 ring, right?

I wished I had used a Sharpie or even something with a wider tip (a paintbrush perhaps?), as seeing that target was nigh on impossible for me. Why? Because our range is laid out so that we shoot to the east - southeast, which puts the autumn sun directly in your face. My target reflects that (no pun intended) and of course, my sometimes questionable shooting skill. Well, that's my story.....
