What about Wildlife management?
yea, what about it? wildlife manages itself. it needs no help from government. the gov. does some good at times, but most time it screws everything up when it "helps" and i see from some of your words you play right into the hands of bureaucrats, such as "this day and age" straight out of the government playbook of control,,,,,,,

First, there is no govt playbook. Second, Wildlife Management is a proven science and has been helpful for decades in preserving many species that otherwise would have been wiped out or otherwise died off.

like i said, they do help sometimes, do doubt. but most times they intrude when it is not needed. their only interest is to pay themselves with our money! and yes, there is a playbook. and you seem to fall for it. i could tell you more but then i would be getting way off subject and in a large political area so i won't, forgive me but i don't trust the gov. in the least! if you do, well have at it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I think the main argument here is state land vs private land.
I don't own a big piece of property so I have to hunt state land. I buy my license, tags and obey the rules.
Why shouldn't a land owner have to follow the same rules as me?
If I can only take X number of deer a season, is it OK for a land owner to take as many deer as they want?

Exactly. Because the deer walks from gov to private land, does not all of a sudden make the deer the property of that land owner! Too many people with their wild conspiracy theories, dislike and distrust of the govt, disregard for laws and regulations, yada yada yada, think they should be able to do what ever they want on their property and the "laws" of the State/Country do not apply to them. WRONG! (IMHO)

I agree, a land owner could put up a high fence around their property, buy deer from a game farm and then do whatever they want on their own land.

What Olskool and Snake don't talk about is that it is too hot in SC to go to the woods! If you shoot a deer, you need to run out of the woods with it or it will rot! I wait until it is going to be below 65 degrees at 9 AM. Then I have a better chance of it not spoiling. I could take ice along, but our season goes until 1 January so there is plenty of time to enjoy some hunting.
SC allows deer hunting down to .36, so .40 is a good choice as it is the largest caliber allowed for squirrels.

you are WRONG! a man should be free on his own property to do with whatever he pleases! i guess with that thinking the gov. has or should have control over everything you own! that is why we are in the fix "we the people" are in now! people going along to get along! what if our founders thought this way? and yes, if an animal walks from the state land to my land it becomes my property! not the states!

Also, the problem I have with corn piles is that it gathers the deer together. We don't have CWD here in SC - YET! We have finally banned real deer urine as a lure. I have been asking DNR to ban it for years. It is collected at deer farms and can contain the prions that cause CWD. Don't use real, use the synthetics.

i have been hunting in and living in SC all my 65 years of life. we kill deer in the heat, and we will have them cleaned within 2 hours. the meat is fine,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yes, in theory if they buy the deer, it is their deer. It is no different when the Wildlife management types "stock" a stream with trout etc. Do all the trout belong to them or are they for the good of all?

Why not just start the season later? But whatever, you are correct. In NW Penna cold kept the deer while you "dragged" it back t camp etc. We used to rinse them out in a stream that was ice cold! But, in SC, you had better move fast or you will end up with "spoiled" deer. I imagine it is the same throughout much of the South.

in my opinion and long experience here in the lowcountry deer scents do very little anyway. as far as gathering deer together, there are so many it really doesn't matter,,,,,,,,,,,

our deer season here in SC started yesterday, i will probably go in the morning. we have the longest deer season in the country, maybe, on private land it goes from Aug. 15-jan1 we can also hunt with any centerfire or muzzleloader or bow or handgun. mostly i will try to flintlock hunt this year,,,,,,,,,,,,,
no wonder you people have a poor quality herd . hunters that come from southern states tell me you shoot anything with horns .

You are living in denial, sorry. YOU are subject to all the laws and reg's even on your land. Like it or not. That is why you pay taxes on "your" land. That is why there can be "easements" on your land. That is why if you commit a crime, the Police will come and get you on 'Your" land. it is what it is. After 65 yrs you should know better.
