From TOW with english flints.

Does your lock seem to prefer flints that are thicker, thinner, flatter, shorter, longer, or more nearly square? Tell us what you need, and we will do our best to select the best flint for your lock when ordering individual flints. Packages of flints are already bagged and no selection of flints is possible. Or specify which gun or lock you have, in our shopping cart comment box, and we will select the best size, for you. We like these nice flints!
Yes, this is true in words, but not always in reality. Look, we need TOTW, we REALLY do, but what has happened to them over the last 3-4 years?

Flints from Heritage are not pre-bagged, when they are shipped, they are individually taped to a piece of cardboard.
Since you let the cat out of the bag you dirty dog you, why didn't you tell them the best part?!?!?

When you order 12 flints of one size, you get 13. Yes you read that right. Order 12 of 1 size and get a bakers dozen!

Great, now when all you scallywags flood poor Heritage with orders I'll never be able to get decent flints again!

Well the saga continues! I tried sanding one down a bit and quickly decided that I should just email TOTW to see what they could do for me. I told them that I had ordered 3 dozen flints from them in the past couple months and almost half (13 out of 36) were too tall to be of any use in my rifle, I also asked if they had direct contact with the knapper and if they could pass the concern along.

The short version of the response I got from TOTW was "you have only ordered a dozen flints from us" (I know, I added on to friends orders when they told me they were making an order) "flints are not returnable, try the amber flints next time". How about I try a different vendor? I'm not trying to swindle anyone here, I just don't like spending my hard earned money on stuff that is of no use to me.

Just kind of rubbed me the wrong way.
Yep!

The same thing that happened to every other company in the world
It actually started prior to SARSCOV2 also known as Covid. I had purchased a brass flask in 2018 that was beyond any definition of defective. It was such poor quality I immediately called TOTW as there was nothing that tinkering could do to fix this flask. I had paid full retail, tax, and shipping. Yet they insisted I had to pay shipping to return it AND if and only if it was actually defective they would ship out another. And I would have to pay shipping on that flask. The replacement flask was perfect. But I paid shipping 3 ways. That was more than the flask's original purchase price. It has gone down hill from there ever since.

@NorthFork i agree, I’m going to distance myself from Track for awhile and they have had 90% of my business for a long time.
This does not make me happy in any way shape or form. But we need to quit rewarding bad company behavior. If they are struggling with supplier quality, THEY need to pressure the suppliers to step up.

The Gun Works Emporium, The Log Cabin Sport Shop, and Heritage-Products have been flawless in any and all dealings I've had with them. Dixie Gun Works has been good over the years. Not perfect, but a solid good. Track of The Wolf used to be EXCELLENT, but lately seems to be poor. If you have a problem with the first 3 I mentioned and are NICE on the phone and not unrealistic, they will bend over backwards to help you.

I have ordered flints from the first 3 and have been satisfied every time. Heritage has been the best by far. Either the amber or black French flints.

It’s tough in Uk you have to dig the flint out of the chalk cliffs in the south downs then attack with a hammer Still not that good at making gun flints but what I make works. Henry Krank uk , google, will post them world wide but still around $4 each download their catalogue I did have some luck with ceramic lathe cutting inserts
Why not buy them from the flint knapper. If you’re a member of the MLAGB, you can get his information from them. I’ll try and look it out anyway

Most of all my flints i got from TOW and ordered by the dozen. Yes i have got’n some humpies per bag but they work great in my .62 Fowler! I also have some of Bldtrailer’s self napped flints but haven’t used them yet…they are a nice looking flint that he did a great job making them. I haven’t tried them yet but in due time.

I guess that means I need to get a fowler...

A big nobly rock Covered in chalk. Which is how flint comes out of the ground
It's true, the best material for flint is the stone from the bottom of the ground and not the one from the surface...
For example, the closest French stone to the British is from the deep-ground stone of Normandy.
Another way is to see near and around the Chanel in the chalk cliffs, but this is forbidden now (when building a house you can get anything you want)...
Always deep in the ground and never on the surface along the rivers or other places like it...
