You could wash the rifle at the car wash, but the cost compared to cleaning at home won't justify the use of the spray nozzle for a few minutes of cleaning.
Sand??? NO!

SAND is a NO NO. It will abrade your bore.Warm water and a little soap if you are in a hurry is all that is needed. As to cleaning patch size and shape any shape or size will work as long as it doesn't fall off the cleaning jag or get stuck. The ideal size is one that goes in easily passing the fouling , "bunches up" and pulls the fouling out. I find that a square cleaning patch that goes down easily and is about three times the bore works for me. But my one friend only uses triangular shaped patches.
I tried to shop at WalMart but they wouldn't let me in. Too many teeth.
Don't waste your time with rubbing alcohol, that stuff will make you go blind. I use good ol Kentucky Moonshine (afterall a jug is always right there), just shoot quick otherwise it will eat right through the barrel.

Why the sand?? Trying to polish your bore? Or scratch it ?
Car wash? are you really serious? There is not a snowballs chance in hades I'd clean my guns at a car wash, not even just the barrel.

Really I should have never posted this, it was just in response to so many weird questions and responses from people who never even actually read the questions posted by others. I forget too that some don't understand sarcasm so my bad. If I can remove this post I will.

Sand works way better than corn meal in a revolver. Just my two cents. I prefer sand from the neighbors cat box.

Parts "R Us". Yes, I hold my gun out the window and wash the car at the same time, patches cut in the shape of a cross will kill Vampires. Don't bother polishing because we don't care so why should you, so drink the alcohol and save the sand for TreeMan's neighbor's cat

Not sarcasm, as i tell Herself, just high-brow and high-grade humor. And using coarse emory paper as a patch will automatically clean the bore after every shot (rough side out, mind you).

I’ve actually used a propane torch many times to dry locks. Just got to do it right. I’ll pass on the car wash, but maybe a garden hose
Ask how to remove a dry ball and you have covered every worm hole on this site!!

Those questions are no worse than many of the newbie questions. Some are even better. Even the "seasoned " shooter asks some doozies, making everyone say "WHAT"?
