Great Plains Vs GPH

I am thinking about a new 50 cal capable of shooting a 380-400 grain bullet for elk hunting. Curious on others thoughts on the GP/GPH rifles in general?
Will a 1-48 barrel suffice for a 385 grain bullet? Or should I look for a 1-32?

The 1-48 would allow me to play with PRB when desired…..

@Gollywomper the twist rate of the GPR varied with production dates. At first were 1:48 and later 1:60. However, I don't know what the switch date was. The GPH would be a good choice for the bullets you describe as would a 1:48 GPR. A 1:60 GPR will shoot bullets in the shorter lengths. Example; Hornady PA conical 240 grain.

I have a CVA mountain rifle that most likely will do ok with the PA conicals. However with elk on my list of critters I think it would be wise to looks for a heavier bullet selection.

If I cannot find a GPH I may have to buy a new Gemmer and the 1-24 hunter barrel they offer.
