The style (shape) looks like it may have come from India. Looking at the serpentine, it makes me wonder if this may have been made up as a display piece. There appears to be no way to hold the match...
 
I missed that... after looking closer you can see the edge on the serpentine where the fracture occurred. Would like to have watched the construction of the barrel... I am sure it was a bear to create.
