I have a ball bag and don't take them out whether I am hunting or target shooting. Heck, it aint THAT much weight.

A loaded rifle and 3 reloads.

1 for a possible second deer
1 to replace the reload I drop in the leaves;
1 extra spare for insurance;

25 shots, I do alot of hunting alone, so if
I got hurt I may need to do some signaling

I realy don't bother counting them, just a small handful usually about 4-6 (.648 balls are easy to find in the pouch).

Toomuch
..........
Shoot Flint

On deer hunts I carry about 10 loads of powder in my horn and half a dozen balls. Never needed that many, but there ya go.

On hunts for snowshoe hare I carry 30 of each, and on some days that hasn't been enough.

I usually have one load in the barrel and 6 patched balls in a loading block for deer/coyote hunting. For squirrels and rabbits, I carry a ball bag with a couple dozen balls and loose patches. (Probably overly optimistic, as I seldom shoot more than 2-3 squirrels during an outing! :wink: )

True,they're not that heavy in their own right,but it's easy to accumulate alot of things that aren't that heavy (or necessary)in our hunting packs,and it quickly becomes just that.What I meant w/I like being weighted down was the more you bring the more you weigh.On a good walk in the mountains every ounce counts.Thanks for the input everyone.

most of my hunts are just an hour or two before work, and since I may only see one deer all year up here, the possiblity of useing more than three shots a day are pretty remote!

I usually have 20 roundballs and 20 patches in a pocket of my bag, then I have 3 speed loaders that I only put my measured amount of powder in due to bad personal experiences with loading a prb in the speedloader. Why I carry so much is I consider it not a bad thing to have that much stuff that's why I have the bag. Also I bet the mountain men carried a bit more than just what they needed to kill a deer with the indians being about.

3 measured loads a bag of roundballs, patches and a powder flask& measure nipple pick, ball puller and jag and rags to clean between shots.

I carry a loaded rifle and four speed loads. In twelve years of deer hunting with a muzzleloader this has always been more than enough. If you only have one shot and a limited amount of reloads this will cause you to make every shot count and not waste any.

With usually 3 tags in my pocket, I usually have one in the gun and one or two preloads. Although I have been known to go with just what was in the gun, makes the meaning, "Make your shot count" really mean something.

1-5 23 (60 %)
6-10 10 (26 %)
More I like being weighted down 5 (13 %)

Like most polls, yours is worded to reflect your own prejudice. what with the "More I like being weighted down" option. Naturally, I chose that option! :rotf:

I carry 13 roundballs, no more no less and patches for each. My powder horn holds more than enough powder for 13 shots...

When deer hunting I fill my loading block 3-6 and have that many in a ball bag in the shooting bag. Have been know to miss :rotf: don't guess you guys ever done that sort of thing. Then also might want to take a squak or get a shot at a yote. Don't worry to much about the Injuns. :haha: When after squaks have been know to carry 2 loading blocks 10 total or 1 block and extra balls in the bag. What ever works for you.

Forgot to mention but always carry the horn with enough powder for all the balls and patchs. :wink:
