I just got my 1851 steel frame Navy Colt from Dixie Gun Works. It's on sale for $185. It's my first pistol (I own 2 blackpowder rifles). I have not shot it yet, but the fit and finish are real nice.

Will try to post photos later.

Can someone tell me how to upload photos directly into a post?

I think I figured it out...

I have not fired it yet. I hope to get to the range this week. As soon as I do I will report back!

Who is the maker of the Dixie navy. Pietta maybe?

Yes, the maker is Pietta. A very nice gun. And Dixie was great. I got the order in a few days, along with bullets (.376 round balls) and wads.

And the price ($185) was the best I have seen for a steel frame, 1851 Colt, Pietta.

Where do you shoot?

I am a member of the Arlington-Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton Club. The club is in Centreville right off Route 28. Very nice, well-run range with nice folks. A lot of blackpowder shooters. The range goes from 25 yards out to 100 yards and you can post targets at 25 yard intervals.

Annual membership dues are very reasonable.

There is also a trap and skeet range, archery range and a well-stocked pond.

That was a good deal. Cabela's regular price is 189.00 but you don't get any extras.

Nice gun Paul. I have one and love it. Let me know which caps yours takes. It seems most take #10s but mine takes #11s. I think I have a caps mutation. Have fun. It is a hoot to shoot.

Steve:

I have not shot it yet, but have tried the #11 nipples. They seem to fit fine. But, again, I have not tried them in live fire.

I can't wait to get it to the range. All I have ever shot is my two blackpowder rifles so I am a little anxious to get out there with the Colt.
