As others have mentioned, I saw this done often enough with PRB shooters in the 70’s, but did not do it myself.

I think this practice may have come from the UnCivil War when they were using Minie Balls. The thinking was when the Minie was all the way down, whanging the Steel Rammer caused the Skirt of the Minie Ball to expand so it would not slide loose from the powder when raising the musket to fire or moving with a loaded Rifle Musket.

Of course I don’t remember NSSA shooters doing it in the 70’s and if it might have helped at all, they would have been the ones most likely to do it.

What are you asking for that failed Bobcat?

Well, I see what you did right there with your 'microloads'.

TBH, 2/10gr, or even 4/10 of a grain of ANY powder isn't going to be very energetic, even in a small calibre rifle like that. :shake:

welp, i'm going to be the odd man out here and say, yes I do it and have since the 70's. we all have our rituals and mine involves that. "throwing" is an over statement for me, more like a couple inch drop and thats just how it is and it works for me. I don't see a change any time soon. same as blowing down the barrel after shooting, been doing it all for almost 40 years, it all works for me.
