I recently got to look at and study two Moravian guns made by contemporary builders. One built by Mike Gahagan and one by Judson Brennan.

Below is Gahagan's build based on the Valentine Beck (attributed) what some refer to as RCA #42

Below is a Brennan Moravian inspired gun. The Patchbox looks like the Albrecht patch box .

I got to lay my current build next to the Gahagan. It was a great feeling to see how well it matched in architecture.

Best to work on it with a clear head and no distractions. That’s where I’m at too. I want to get all my spring chores done while it’s still cool. The chores are as close to work as I get. Then I’ve got all summer in an air conditioned shop to work on my builds.
I love the color treatment on the lower wooden patchbox rifle. Very warm
Same here. I really like that rifle.

Today I went to my teachers shop and worked on the rifle for a few hours.

Our next step was to square up the back of the barrel.

Then cut the breech plug tang down and file it square.

Installing the breech plug. My teacher has all of the cool tools!

After we had the breech plug installed we made several small bends in the tang to match the line of the wrist.

Here we're taking a look at how the Davis double set triggers will line up with the sear.

We did some work on the the trigger guard tenons so I can continue to file and shape in my shop.

What Davis trigger did you use? I used their dst 6 on my build and the trigger bar was much shorter than yours. I had to solder on a piece of metal to properly reach the sear bar.

Davis 4's from Chambers as Mike said.
While out at friendship I noticed R.E. Davis was selling 4s with the tall blades.

Howdy folks!
Yesterday I worked on inletting the front and middle ramrod pipes. Boy my back was sore!

Below are the tools used to form the pipes. These are available at knob mountain muzzleloading.

I used a Pilar file which comes with safe sides to create the flats on the pipes.

And a Nicholson triangle file with a safe side I ground down on a belt sander to file the grooves to form the wedding bands.

The mandrel from the pipe tool comes in handy when inletting to keep from deforming the pipe when tapping it with the mallet and aligning it to the channel.
