I used super glue to hold them together. Drys fast and water proof. (I think). This"smoothbore" Stuff is all new to me. Shot Rifled flintlocks for years.

I made a dee

In addition to a new hi-potential shot cup approach, your photo illustrations are excellent

I sure like what you have going here, lots better than what I've been doing with oversize patches. I'm looking forward to your shooting reports.

I'm not real coordinated with super glue, to the point it kinda scares me to use it. I can see where it would really speed up the process, but have you tried any other glues?

Shot a few today...Not good. Pattern was like a donut shape. very few in middle. Otherwise ...good pattern. I'm going to try 4 slits in cup and a bit deeper . Any thoughts would be appreciated !! ..Jeff

Stop using that big heavy 1/2" cushion wad...just use the hard card and the lubed cup.

And / or, if you happen to have some prelubed Oxyoke wonderwads on hand, use 1 (or 2) of those in place of the hard card.

You're using the same powder & shot I put in my 16 gauge: 1-1/8 oz & 68 gr FFg (2-1/2 drams). If lengthening the slits doesn't help try backing down on the powder five grains or so.

How do you lube your fiber wad? I quickly roll just the edge of mine in molten beeswax/Crisco mix. If you soak it heavy it may be charging through the pattern. Mine blow to paper-thick pieces a few feet past the muzzle.

That's what I'd try along with four longer cuts.

As for charge, that's heavier that what I use in a 20, but others use more. My "heavy" load is 1 oz of shot and 70 grains of 2f (same measure for both). If I'm using 3f I drop it to 60 grains of powder. But of course, every gun and use is different. I'm only using mine for upland game, so sometimes I even drop it to 3/4 oz of shot over 50 grains of 3f. With that light shot charge, the gun seems to like 3f better than 2f when using the same measure.

I know guys on here successfully use shot charges as larger or larger than what I do in a 12 gauge, so I'd pay attention to their methods if you want bigger shot payloads.

I would drop the big wad friend. In fact I never use them. Just some over shot cards.

My paper shot cups worked good with four cuts for 3/4 their length.

HTH.

B :hatsoff:

you could try breaking the big fiber wad into 2-3 pieces i've done it and it works "ok" or like RB said the wonder wads work too...thats what I use in my Carolina style fowler. For Turkey loads I go waaay heavy on #5 shot 1 7/8 & 100gr Ffg with a wonder wad over the shot.Bout the only thing denser @30yds is my 10ga "suppository" SP 10 :rotf: I've even used a 1 1/8 load of shot with 75gr Ffg which is a lot easier on the shooter and gun.Pretty good pattern too out to 25 yrds.I use the "ohioramrod" shot cartridges with tape over the ends instead of tying them.just fool around with it you'll find the magic load then fool around some more looking for a better one :rotf:

I agree with Roy who agrees with Roundball!

Lose the fiber wad..lighter is better!
