Hello gentleman, This is my first post on this forum. I am new here but have been shooting smokepoles for 25 years or so. Been to Friendship and used to make it to a match here in eastern Ohio just about every weekend. With that let me say I'm a shooter, not a builder. I did put together a TC Hawken kit many years ago but that's about it. Where am I going with this? Many years ago I decided to try my hand at building a rifle. Went out to Golden Age Arms and picked out a nice Vincent style flintlock kit. Got the lock and barrel inlet OK but when I got to the buttplate I started having problems. Couldn't get it to fit right so I put the rifle away. Like I said that was many years ago. Lately I've been wanting to get that rifle finished so I am looking for a builder in eastern Ohio, western PA or northern WVA to finish it for me. Any suggestions?

There was a guy up near Uniontown PA, near Jumonville, on top of the Mountain there, but I heard that he passed away.
The neighbor up the road from me used to build (did superb work too!) and had a small shop there for maybe 20 yrs, but he retired. Don't think I could convince him to do any work nowadays... he's enjoying travelling/going fishing all the time too much to bother.
There may still be hope...
I know another guy who learned building from the PA guy I mentioned first. He was the one who got me first interested in Flintlocks. He is still around here in Eastern Panhandle of WV, but I haven't talked to him in about 20 years or so. He supposedly "retired" also. He was a Minister and did missionary work a good bit after "retiring". But I'll see if I can locate him for you and what's up. He did extremely nice work too!

A lot of builders won't want to take on your gun without looking at it because they don't want to be responsible for things which have already been done.
If you are determined to have someone else finish it, good luck to you.
If you think that after all of these years you might want to try it again, join us on the Builders Bench!
