I’ve used Unique Musket Cases for a few years now and find them to be excellent quality padded gun cases at very low prices.

In addition to their normal line of cases, I asked them if they could knock out a matching little barrel case to store a spare barrel in, and this is what they sent me”¦a miniature matching case and it works perfectly.

Wow. Good looking gear at a heck of a price, even without the spare barrel cases. Long years of service is further measure of value.

I ordered a Unique case for my new-to-me southern flintlock. Excellent quality, and excellent service at a good price. I believe they are the go-to source for a modern style case that will fit a LR. All that said, the next time I order one, I will measure the balance point of the rifle it's for before placing the order. I hope that they will adjust the placement of the handle based on my measurement. The standard placement of the handle is pretty far aft of the balance point, such that when I pick it up, the muzzle swings down and hits the floor (this is with a 42" straight barrel; maybe someone with a swamped LR would've found it to be perfect). Hmmm, maybe that means I need to buy another rifle, this time swamped. Regards, Mike

Three of the rifles I have cased in their 62" cases have 42" barrels as follows:

Straight 7/8" .50cal
Swamped B-weight .54cal
Swamped B-weight .45cal

The .50cal is a bit nose heavy but it doesn't hit or drag on the floor...I carry / walk with it in one hand like I normally do, and the muzzle is tilted down 2-3".

They definitely are accommodating people to deal with and if they can move the handles forward a couple inches I'm convinced that they will.
But...if the manufacturing process is heavily automated / computer controlled, there may be a limit to what they can do, dunno

AZflyguy-

If your case has a shoulder strap that runs from end to end and it's 58" or longer, then you have an older version. The updated version has a shoulder strap that stops at 50" from the muzzle end and the balance point issue was addressed.

My wife has worked for the company since 2004 and the Mortons are good people, period. There are no computers involved in the manufacturing of these cases, they're still done the old fashioned way - by human hand. They buy as many American made components as possible and all sewing is done in PA and WV.

Hope this answers any questions.

That explains why I don't have any balance issues with mine;

They sure get my vote...an excellent example of what & how you'd want a business to operate like...and as a result, now when I need a case, I don't even think about looking anywhere else...just pick up the phone and make a call.

Case in point...driving my wife back from a mid-morning appointment a couple weeks ago, I called them on the cellphone from the car, told them what I needed...it was delivered the next day...yes, the next day!

I was so flabbergasted I called them back and asked if they'd chartered a plane or something...turns out they had what I wanted already made up, scrambled to get it packed minutes before FedEx arrived for their daily pickup, and all the FedEx transfers happened to work out just right, on the front porch 24 hours later, regular ground transportation.

:hatsoff: to Unique Musket Cases !

Bob,
Thanks for the info! I just got back from another overseas trip, and your post inspired me to go check my case. Based on your description, my case is the newer design, and it does carry well with the shoulder strap. It's the hand straps that are about 6in or so aft of my LR's balance point. Definitely not a major concern; I just reach for the shoulder strap instead of the hand straps now.

Regards,
Mike
