Borrowed the below from the ALR Site:

Today Lee Shaver posted a perfect score of 40/40 at 1000 yds with iron sights and his muzzleloader. What's more, he was firing prone without shooting sticks. I can't remember for sure how big the bull is on the target (maybe someone here knows?), but I want to say 2' for the centre.
Perfect score with iron sights unsupported at 1000yds with a muzzleloader is quite a feat.

Maybe I thinner sights, at 50 yards the front post seems to cover 1/4th of a black 12" target. I can't even imagine at 1000 yards.

Here's da man!....the photo is from another forum. I pretty sure these guys wipe between shots.

I’ve done business with Lee in the past, he is a talented gunsmith and shooter. He knows what he is doing. There should be a full article on this shoot and what he did somewhere on the web. I’m at work and will look when I have some time.

He's left handed. And using the sling to steady the rifle.

What does a score of 40/40 mean?

He's using an aperture front sight.

Had him redo a trigger on an unmentionable, and I was am very happy with his work.

And yes, that's some amazing shooting. I'd like to know what load and projectile he used.

If the 1000 yard bullseye is 36", that would be about like a 3 and a half inch bullseye at 100 yards. Of course, windage, elevation, and shot to shot consistency make it much much more difficult. I wonder if they weigh out all their charges for better consistency?

A standard bull is just a hair over 8 MOA. 8" at 100 yards, about 4 at 50, 1 3/8" at 50'. I've tried shooting 50 yard targets at 100 yards before and they're too hard for me to see. What's more you would need a front sight blade smaller than the target. For me, anything smaller than about 5 MOA is too hard for me to see well. So a 36" 1000 bull just sounds too small to me.

The name of the game in long distance shooting is all about doping the wind, which is about reading the heat mirage or flags if you have them. That said, going 40 for 40 is an amazing feat. I regularly shoot a scoped .22 l.r. at 240 yards and that time of flight is about 0.9 seconds, and there is about 6' of bullet drop. With a ML'er, I'm guessing his time flight is about 5 seconds, and with about 40' of bullet drop. I'm about t100% sure he's using some kind of a shaped bullet, because I doubt a RB could make it that far shot out of anything much smaller than a 2 bore.

Thanks for sharing your insight/knowledge, it answers most of the things I was wondering about.
