Well, my paternal Grandfather served in the Army for 30 years. He was a tanker in WWII. My maternal Grandfather was in the Wehrmacht as an Artillery officer (he died in the war I am told.) My father was in the Army for 27 years - two tours of Viet Nam and then several years as a Drill Sargeant. I went through ROTC and was the first in the family to be commissioned as an Officer - Regular Army Field Artillery. I went into Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. A screwed up shoulder put an end to all that - a month before the lock in for the first round of festivities in the Iraqi theatre. While I had very mixed emotions about all that (was a newly wed then), I can now say that I am glad that I have not been on the two way rifle range. I have several buddies that are in and out of there. God Bless our troops and keep them safe! :redthumb:

USAF 1959-1963, got extended for the Cuban garbage, I should have gong where my buddy went, the DDYC- Draft Dodgers Yacht Club (US coast guard).

BP shooting is fun

4 years 84-88 USN USS ELROD (FFG-55)Majored in supply with a serious minor in helo fire fighting, 3 years 93-96 PANG 1/111 INF(MECH). Finished up as an E-5 both places.

10 years Army 1984 -1994. They taught me Korean, Czech, and Serbo-Croatian. Of course, we fought Panama and Iraq, not Korea or Czechoslovakia.

Would have retired at the end of last year, except for that brilliant plan "drawdown" back then. Still have some buddies in.

As an earlier post, my "gun love" started much earlier. Dad was on the Army rifle team for several years. Once he got out and the Army quit paying for his ammunition he had to find a cheaper way to shoot, and started in BP. Never looked back.

Walker357; No white sand for me, rice paddies, rice paddies, rice paddies, elephant grass, rice paddies. Sometimes, I have to look at my old pictures to believe I really was there. Funny how the brain works. :curse:

Cub Scout, '74-'75
U.S. Army (Signal Corps), '84-'94
Desert Shield/Desert Storm, '90-'91

USAF. Aircraft Maintenance Specialist, Jet aircraft, one and two engine. AFSC was 43171C. Went in Dec. 22nd, 1972. Nixon ended 'Nam while I was in basic. By the time I got to Williams AFB, AZ in '73 there was such a draw down in forces I opted for my remaining enlistment in the ANG in Feb of '74. Spent then next 4 years in the Mo. Air Natl. Guard. Seems a lifetime ago and I guess it is.... Love of firearms came from my Father long before I ever put on a uniform.

Cross trained to O5 Charlie (radio teletype)
Cross trained again to 36 Kilo (field wireman)
Learned Morse code and took a bunch of tests to end up as a 31 Echo (Master of Communications)

Amen, OJ! I was mechanized Infantry but all the humping I did, I'm not sure if we were supposed to ride on those things (113 APC) or just work on 'em! I never had to hump a base plate or mortar tube, but I carried a '60 for more than a few miles.
Made a few trips in the Blackhawks and chinooks. I absolutely loved flying in the Blackhawk, but I'd rather listen to dogs bark than ride in another shithook!
While I'm on that topic, I watched a program on the Military channel a couple weeks ago that had tears streaming down my face by the end. It was called, In the Shadow of the Blade." It was a documentary about a couple guys who flew a Huey across the country and hooked up with former crew mates, wounded transports, or family members of people killed in Viet Nam. Awesome, awesome show. If you get a chance, see it.
Thanks to all who have made the sacrifice. Thanks to all who have picked up where we left off and continue the fight for freedom! God Bless America! Hoo Ahh!!!
Rick
