I wonder if the camera and sound and lighting crews will be in there "roughing it" also. :hmm:

Well, I'm guessing not, but I am hoping that it will be similar to some of the programs that aired a number of years ago on CBC and PBS---one featured voyageurs canoing to Hudson's Bay, another followed a group going over the pass to the Klondike goldfields.

By the way, Oliver McCloskey and Doc Ivory (aka Scott Olsen) are members of the American Mountain Men, and authors of "Supply & Demand, The Ledgers and Gear of the Western Fur Trade". They know how to do it 'right'.

I miss those shows on pbs and the other you talk of. They were some good uns. I also bought in dvd the boone & crockett and the one of Jed smith that the history channel put out a few yrs back. I'll take a quick peek at this one an hope it not like all the other reality shows. Maybe this one will be different :hatsoff:

I don't know about the other guys on the show, but I know of Larry Harley (the blacksmith)and I know that he's for real. Read about him on Lonsome Pine Knives website. Been to a couple of his hammer-ins and he put on a pretty good show. Just take it for what it's worth.
I know for a fact that the producers doctor up the characters. They did with Miss Tudy's cousin who was an award winning motorcycle/chopper builder.
They portrayed him as an illiterate country bumpkin that walked like Gomer Pyle. He wasn't anything like that in REAL life. Amazing what a man will do for a few extra bucks... :(

Well I just added Nat Geo (and 79 more channels) so I could watch this show. I hope its worth it!

 Oops, my bad fellas. I thought you were taking about the program that comes on at 9:00 on the 23rd of the month. It's called Lords of War, and it appeared to have blacksmithing, gunsmithing and other stuff.
Guess that'll learn me to put my fingers in gear afore my mind's engaged  ...Bud

Sounds like the BBC series of shows such as Colonial House, or Frontier House..., but paying attention to all the criticism of those shows, and the guys are actually armed, and two experienced folks are teaching the nickie newguy. The shows I mentioned above actually went out of their way to avoid living history people and guns and were really bad :barf: . The director in an interview was self-deluded that he'd done a good job..., this new stuff looks pretty good, and I look forward to it.

Dude, they SUCKED!

They went out of their way to choose folks who would clash in Colonial House, and to avoid the use of guns, especially in Frontier House. Sorry, but the mouthy woman feminist from California would've been placed in the stocks for 24 hours and dowsed with water had she been that mouthy in the 17th century (and yes they should've done that IF they were really going to represent a true, colonial experience).

i was dissapointed, the concept was good, but it wasnt realy informative or anything, and appeared to be just a one hour documentary and not a series?

I'll agree that it wasn't very informative but I thought it was entertaining. It has potential and I'll watch it again but I'll watch anything with guns and horses in it.

I hoped it would be a series too. The first half of the show seemed like it would be the typical reality show with scrypted drama. I didn't see that in second half of the show and really enjoyed it. :hatsoff:

If we're still talking about Hard Riders, I watched episode 1 last night. For me the jury is still out but it has some promise.

I'll definately watch it next week. GW
