Its always amazed me how critical people are of using WD40. Ive been using it for years on muzzleloaders after cleaning with water to displace moisture. Green Mountain barrels says to use it in their owners manuals after cleaning with water. For long term storage protection i use either RIG or Outers gun grease.
 
I think I might try some of that Ballistrol since it is not petroleum based. I had a guy at a shoot last year tell us he uses sperm whale oil, but I have tried every bait I can think of, here in the Ohio river, and still haven't caught one of them! :rotf:

For extended storage I use Rem-Oil.I use
moose snot for patch lube.In my opinion lots
of things work....What is important is that you
use some sort of rust prevention. From what I have read on this thread, we all do.
