Well you can lead a horse to water but if they're not thirsty they won't drink. Passing on some stuff that works and is useful to some folks and aparently not to others, it's all good anyway!
I have a saying I picked up in the last decade or so and at 72 years of age I can honestly say " Why there ain't no end to the things I don't know yet"! Good information , suggestions and ideas are like gold nuggets in a stream, I can't wait to find them , look em over and decide if it's gold or iron pyrite.Wow!! What an excellent and "insightful" question!!
Why should anyone take advice from someone with no technical training pertaining to the mechanical setup of a mechanism but is giving advice on how to make it . . . better. Kinda like an engine builder for a NASCAR race team being told by the Driver of the particular car on how to "better" the performance of the engine . . . Just because the driver can drive the end result of a team of builders/fabricators doesn't mean he is the "go to" for advice on anything other than driving!!
I happen to agree!! Why should anyone listen??
I've seen many YouTube videos that "instruct" folks on how to "destroy" their S.A. revolvers!! "Buy extra parts" they say!! "Parts are cheap"!! "Why pay (someone that knows) how to tune your revolver" the parts are simple and I can show how "I" do it !!!! (Who is he?!!!!) Lol!!!! Half the time during the video he calls the parts by the wrong name . . . but that doesn't matter . . . does it??!
The fact is, M.De Land is correct. Most trigger, bolt and hammer screws/screwpins are not perfectly positioned and "perfect" parts alignment isn't possible. There is a reason for "hand fitting" action parts in a single action revolver . . . A revolver that "functions" may be all some folks need and it may last forever or it may wear out in short order because of tollerance stack. Depending on the intended use, speed may a factor and most S.A.'s have spring rates that aren't conducive for speed. More importantly, the parts may not function correctly just because lighter springs are installed . . . even on consecutive numbered guns.
In my own experience, I've never even shot at a SASS match, but I am a SASS member. Some of these folks can tune their own . . .most can't. I've been fortunate enough to put revolvers in the hands of folks that have won 7 different State championships (some multiple times) and one fellow has 2 international championships. I may not can shoot like these folks can . . . but I know how to make their revolvers work so they can.
The reason I like to run through the forums is for information. Learning is a full time job for everybody. If you quit learning, you're basically done . . . how boring is that?!!! Likewise, just when you think you know it all . . . you get a quick reminder that you don't!!! Lol So to make life easier, I decided yrs ago . . . I'll never know it all !!! (Most maybe . . . but not all !!! Lol!!)
