Anyway, here we go !!
Here's the spacer with the witness mark -

Here's the spacer in place with the frame and barrel lug not meeting.-

Dressing the spacer gets the barrel lug and frame to meet -

Now all you have to do is dress the spacer to get your endshake.
Same with the Leech and Rigdon-

The Pietta ( Dance and Bros) in this case has an arbor that is too long so -

So, I'll dress the arbor to get my "endshake" and all will be good.

The thinness of the forcing cone on the Dance would dictate absolutely NO conversion cylinder for these revolvers!!!

Cozy! We have an 80s Earth Stove, used to heat the house with it before the ruptured disk put an end to wood cutting.

Great info on the Forcing Cone, not an issue for me but others would need to be aware. Phew.

Total odd 1860 here had to file down the arbor end on a pietta so the gap was not like 1/64. But that was with a Kirst cylinder.

Ok, so the '60 Army (U) has the spacer "installed" and the endshake is .0035" . I'll take material off if the arbor to "land" in the .0025"- .003" spec.

The top or 12 o'clock section of the forcing cone will need to be dressed to end up with a "square" setup.

The Dance ended up at .003" endshake but I'll take the slightest off the arbor so it can "shoot" into its spec of "just shy" of .003" -

Now, all 3 of these revolvers will be the same revolver they were set up to be every time they are assembled.

Understand that these pictures were taken with no hand spring installed. These were to show the endshake and barrel lug / frame joint.
Normally, the hand spring is pushing the cylinder forward so to see /measure the endshake, one must pull the cyl to the rear.

Note the slight gap on the bottom of the lug in the center picture that indicates the fit out of plumb.
You don't want to adjust the barrel/cylinder gap by dressing the barrel breech at the forcing cone. You level the gap by adjusting the arbor end fit. wedge depth and lower lug height other wise you leave the coaxial misalignment between the chamber and barrel bore that causes the uneven gap to begin with.
Filing the barrel breech also shortens the top of the cone angle into the bore and creates an ovate instead of a round at the breech opening.

Was the Kirst cylinder for a Pietta?
The Pietta cylinders are slightly longer than those for an Uberti. I always use Pietta cylinders in Uberti revolvers so you can use standard length ammo (of course you have to reduce the forcing cone slightly for fitting).

Yes kirst on a pietta but bit of file its just can get a sheet of paper in the gap with it smacked to heck with a plastic end gunsmith hammer. 50 years of dealing with them things and I lean new stuff at the time too but the kirst .45 conversion is a new deal for me.
