My son's 2017 buck. Neck shot at 175 yards.

I hope to actually have some "trophy" photos before the end of the season. I don't have much in the way of photos since I had no digital camera until relatively recently. I'll post what I have.

I had to really scrape for these as most were taken decades ago. This deer was taken with a gun I no longer have - circa 1972. This is the largest turkey for me yet. And a flintlock squirrel. This bobcat was taken - along with another one - in 1966 with the accompanying rifle. These are some recovered ball from various deer over the years. The last photo is of me just relaxing at home.

recovered .605" ball now measures 8/8" x 15/16" and shed less than 1gr!

recovered ball was round enough to shoot again!

On the hoof or on the wing, I count any bird taken with a flintlock a trophy.

Nice photos, and I agree, game taken with flintlocks are to be cherished.

I was trying to add a couple of additional, better photos to my previous post, but apparently exceeded allowable edit time; I'll just add them here.

My hunting revolves around Whitetail Deer, Turkey, squirrel and rabbits. As we're seeing in the pictures, the "trophies" are our experiences in the outdoors. Sometimes they are a "big" animal, but that is the least measure....

An average afternoon squirrel hunt:

My Golden Retriever "Kaiah" helps:

As does my "rescue" Black Lab, Bella:

Kaiah has one located!

My Grandson holds a huge Fox Squirrel we took:

It will be a while before my Grandson can shoot the Virginia!

Looking out over beautiful Trout Valley in SE MN on a winter small game hunt. Game taken or not, this is a huge part of what hunting is to me. Just being out there in God's beautiful creation!

For small game and turkey, my .62 Virginia Smooth rifle fills the bill perfectly:

I'm a horrible turkey hunter, but even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut:

Occasionally I stumble onto a Rabbit:

The dogs always get excited when a deer is brought in:

Who doesn't like a big fat doe for the freezer?

"Old Moe" took over a week of hunting in sub-zero temperatures, including wind chills of -20 to -30 degrees, to get. I sent in a tooth for cross-section analysis and his age came back at 7 1/2 years. While not my biggest antlered buck, taking a very old buck under those conditions was a highlight for me:

My biggest buck with traditional muzzleloader:

DANG! Hey, Spikebuck, Excess650, do you two ever kill anything other than huge bucks?! I don't even see that many in a half dozen years! And wattle, I'm a good doggie and very friendly.

And I totally agree; any game, IMO, taken with a flintlock - okay, even a caplock - is a trophy. There!
