Bought 2 Buffalo targets at The Log Cabin Shop. Started looking for a Euroarms 1841 Mississippi .58 as a possible future purchase.

Went squirrel hunting. Saw a couple but to far. A friend let me hunt his farm. He said he had a few fox squirrels around. I really want one with my flintlock. Pretty sure the one was a fox squirrel but I forgot my binos and not 100% sure. All in all a good afternoon. Got to watch some deer too.

The topic is what muzzleloading stuff have you done today? Well this is my first attempt at making powder horns. I have a friend who got me couple horns and I'm going to try this. I have searched maybe not in the right places on any processes or anything needed to go about this. Any knowledge or information will be grateful. And helpful

Took the T/C White Mountain Carbine .50 out to the porch. Used up some Hornady unmentionables. T/C WMC in .50 caliber have a fast twist. Too cold to put targets out, so shot at some snow hills... which now have holes in them. Had one misfire and one hangfire with Pyrodex P. Bummer.

Technically this is "What Muzzleloading Stuff I Did Yesterday", but I took pictures of my progress today. I got the trigger guard screwed into the stock, for some reason the rear hole was the hardest steel I've ever tried to drill through while the front was like any old mild steel. I also got the tops of the barrel channel mostly planed down to their final height, after looking at it in the sunlight I noticed a few areas that still need attention. Lastly I got my homemade nose cap screwed on, I think on my next rifle I will try the rivet method to affix it to the stock. I think I am finally starting to see the glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel for this build.

A very chilly, wet day here. A good day to sit in the shop and finish up odds and ins on the SMR. Installed the rear sight, went in nice and snug. Polished the front sight and installed it, but wasn’t tight enough. Took a long 5/8” socket and gave it 2 good moderate raps with a hammer. Front sight is nice and snug now too. Using the socket works perfectly for tightening up a dove tail. If you try it, make sure the socket is large enough to not bottom out on the barrel face. Also recommend making your own lipped sight drift, very stable, and won’t mar the metal. I make mine from 3/8” brass rod and use a mill file to shape.
