Why isn’t this allowed? We need black powder to make our smoke poles to work. That rule doesn’t make sense at all.
Lots of sites do not allow any mention of making black power, reloading unmentionables and other items. It has to do with liability, political correctness and just plain stupidity. There are lots of places online to get instruction in making black powder... youtube is just one that comes to mind. A pre-internet source was the old Foxfire book series... which has lots of other information in it as well. They are still available, but rather pricey.

Captain Kirk made it in the 18th episode of the first season of Star Trek the original series, but I would not try to follow his recipe. If it worked at all, it wouldn't have worked very well, and as for the bamboo barrel that supposedly would fire diamond projectiles... well, I'll leave that the the more adventurous, young and stupid folks.

Cut some steel target plates out and started welding on the chain. But I stopped after 7. I can make more, but these will get the woods walk started. Should warm up next week so I can hang and paint them. Have 2’x3’ piece that I might paint a hog on for long shots. I won’t show my gorilla welds, they’re ugly, but they hold.

Took the 1858 Remington out for some exercise today. The range was really crowded so I went to my private shooting spot near the house that I've been using for over a year now. But not my property and I got busted by a very nice young cop. Informed me I was trespassing with a firearm but didn't write anything up, never even asked my name. He left just before me and on the way out he had his vehicle buried in the sand down to the frame. My little 2002 Tacoma is 4wd and I had some chains but in the soft sand all I could do was start to sink my own truck without budging his. Poor guy. He thanked me, said not to worry, he had help coming. I thought about sticking around to help but also thought maybe it was time to get out of Dodge while the getting was good. I'm sure many of you remember when you could just go out, pick a safe place to shoot and make a day of it plinking away. The good old days.

Yeah, I remember those days. Once took a couple of soldiers out to the woods with a borrowed AR platform rifle to do a bit of practicing before qualification at drill the next weekend. Public land, no problem. This is, unfortunately, no longer allowed there. Gotta go to an actual range now. One day soon I will probably have to move from where I presently reside. This will sharply curtail my shooting time and I might end up not being able to keep black powder in the new place if it is an apartment complex. I hate even saying those words... hopefully I will die suddenly in my sleep instead of having to relocate.

For a country that prides itself on freedom of speech and the press, this rule just seems wrong.

I wish we could discuss it but it’s in the forum rules and you’ll definitely get to have a conversation with the moderators if you go into detail.
maybe what we need is another method of communicating so that we can further our education in "all" things muzzle loading. I for one totally disagree with this stupid rule but I'm forced to go along with it. If anyone can PM me Id sure appreciate talking about this banned subject away from prying eyes.

Sorry to hear that. Enjoy each day that you have.

We face very different times from when many of us grew up. Worrying about a school shooter was never heard of. Now it is too common. My grandson just had a 2 hour lockdown today due to a threat.🤬

Making the stuff to feed our front loaders is easily available at other locations on the net. We have bigger issues than not being able to discuss it here. I enjoy this site for all the great information that is available.

this tunic came in the mail today. Not much of an outfit but better than just a flannel shirt.

put 10 roundballs through the trapper, cleaned her good then loaded up again and fired three more shots. Ready for match day tomorrow. The first shot after the cleaning was a hangfire. this is my method now. cleaned, broken in again and put away with a load in the barrel so that no air gets in there overnight. empty it into a target 1st thing in the morning and drive to the match with a broken in pistol. Certainly this twists the head off all the folks who preach swabbing after every shot but its what works for me.

Luckily there are still good, reputable sources on this on youtube. And some that isn’t.

The first person that blew his face off with a BP recipe from this forum would sue this forum.

One of those ugly facts of modern America.

No personal accountability.
