did a bi weekly check of my charcoal burners to see if anything nasty is growing in the barrels. got as far as the first, my SMR .32. scope showed some brown/red. an hour later its clean. only 7 more to go .

Tried to add onto my range, we opened up some brush so I can add a 100 yard backstop. We have one at 35yards and 75yards and can shoot offhand in the shade at 35,25 and 15 yards. Snow is melting and were turning the yard to mud tramping back and forth through it so instead of dragging power tools and extension cords into the soup I decided (she decided) to put off building the new bench. Plenty to do when spring really does get here.

Working on getting the bend out of the new ram rod I got from TOTW.
USPS shipping box broken in the middle, the stiff cardboard the rod was secured to also bent. A little heat and some weight in the middle may just cure the problem.

A little bend is good, keeps it from slipping…

Finished inletting the lock on the percussion to flintlock conversion. Normally I'm a very patient person, however in this particular case I decided to shoot the rifle before re-finishing / touching up the bare wood. The front sight is dull like the brass inlays, so I'm going to have to polish it to be able to see it better. Target is the usual steel at 25 yards with some shots existing from the smoothbore to flintlock conversion.

Unfortunately inletting over an existing lock mortise has left a few minor gaps in the bottom of the new lock mortise. Trying to decide if it is worth my time to attempt to remove the hump behind the hammer, it would require a complete redo of the breech plug tang shape, then more stock removal.

Full picture on some ash stumps. Overall profile isn't too bad and the original builder done a wonderful job on the inletting of the inlays.

The steel target, looks like the front sight could go right (corrected previously posted left, Thanks Ames).

Your correct right it is! Not sure why I typed left...I know better (corrected). Thanks!!!

I agree that hump will bother me, the tang screw holds the trigger in place, just not too sure about the angle of that alignment if I put a better profile on the tang to remove the hump. I suppose I will know more when I tear into it.

Testing the Skychief load in my new-to-me Fusil de Chasse. At 20 yards with 70gr each of 2Fg and shot (#6 I think), I got 7 in a 3” circle and 11 more out to 5”. At 25 yards with the same load, the pattern dropped lower on the paper. I still got 8 in the 3” and 16 more in the 5”, but this time the fibre wad punched through the paper, too. Not too bad, I guess.

cut a dovetail in my pistol barrel installed a tab, drilled and temporary pinned it.
shaped the butt and am inletting the butt cap. get that done today i will be a happy dog!!!
