What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

It was VERY nice today, so, I just had to spank that zoo critter in the back ground using a cap pistol this afternoon...

My muzzleloading activities today and each of the last several days are not very exciting.

I have been cleaning and rust protecting my flintlocks, something I do at least once a year. Some health issues kept me off the shooting range for a while, so many of my muzzleloaders were not used for some time. Now that I am ready to go again, I want my muzzleloaders ready as well.

Next: cleaning and rust protecting my percussion rifles followed by the same for pistols. How much fun can one person have?

Yesterday, actually. Put on an old-fashioned Clanger shoot along with a tube target (shoot through the tube and flip up the back!)

The tube was at 15 yards. The others were 25 to 55.

The nice thing about acting as Rangemaster, is no guns to clean when you get home!

Emerald Empire Gun Club, a little northeast of Springfield, Oregon. They have a Public range and four "member" ranges; Pistol, Rimfire, Shotgun, and 200 yards. Round balls and conicals are allowed on all ranges except the shotgun. This was the Pistol range.

Re Packed up my Flintlock Fowler to be shipped off to the new owner.
Glad someone got it rather than have it sit around looking pretty and not being used.

Got my shooting range cleaned up (mowed) and installed an new backer frame. I removed a large maple in Feb and burried the large tough to split pieces in the backstop. Ready to start back shooting after a long stoppage. Nice thing is from the house to the 100 yds range is about 80 yds+\- so I am able to sneak out and fire a target or two any evening and still be home for dinner!

Banged some steel my self today. Did some offhand practice at 50 yds. I’m shoot’n a little high and to the left. At least it was consistent this time. Been struggling in the off hand with the TVM. Thinking things are finally turning around.

made myself get up on my hind legs and shoot some today. burned some of the powder i made the other day.
shot my Invest arms Percussion carbine. 22 inch barrel, 38.75 inch oal.
407g .535 REAL bullets lubed with Frontiers bear grease.
110g of my fffg cedar charcoal based powder.
133 yards turned out 6 inch groups.
what a fun little gun!
next session will drift the rear sight to the right a hair. completely happy with the shooting at that distance

It was a beautiful day; I decided to make a bunch of paper cartridges for my Charleville. Pretty easy and didn’t take long at all. Jefferson Arsenal had there paper cartridge kits on sale a couple months back so I bought some. Buck and ball for the Charleville, regular Revolution Era ball cartridges and similar but large ball for the Brown Bess. I made around 40 for the Charleville which I have no been shooting too much over the last year. I loaded them up with a .648 ball and 110 grains of 1 1/2 F. Man oh Man they look cool and work even better. I shot 5 of them the same afternoon. They seem more accurate then a patched .680 ball. All five shots were placed with in a few inches center on a steal target. 110 is a powerful load. I primed with 4F. I opted for these kits because I was having trouble finding the correct size ball. The kits on sale are reasonable. I was pleasantly surprised how well it did; really not trying off hand at 35 yards. Next weekend I’ll be shooting at 50; I can still see the target. Hope all has a nice Memorial Day weekend!

It’s the second Karacher I have bought. Think I’ll try another make , it won’t match the grass now. , “ blue and green should not be seen with something else in between “ Flint lock Gibs target rifle has been a struggle almost getting there

I finished the Refurbishing on my CVA Colonial .45 Cal. pistol. I originally built this kit 26 years ago. I had absolutely no I idea what I was doing. I recently bought a Traditions .50 Cal. Kentucky Rifle kit. While doing research on the assembly of that kit I realized that I had done a horrible job on the pistol. I decided to refurbish the pistol using it as a much needed practice before I started on the .50 Cal. I'm much happier with the results.

My 1766 Charleville Carbine project is complete. Mr. Paul Ackerman, of New York, did the work,

Musket started as an older and used Japan made 1766 Charleville Musket from Dixie Gun Works.
I wanted a companion piece, to go with my 1777 Charleville pistol, but I wanted a carbine length musket.

Paul said that an older japan made gun would be much better than the newer India made ones. I found this one
on an auction. YEah...I paid more than I wanted to, but I never expected these guns to be priced so high; and so few and far between.

This is my first flint lock musket. I have a few accouterments, but I am not really into re-enacting (Did my share of Civil War from 1984-1998), this is just going to be a fun gun. (A lot of money to spend, just for fun! But hey, I didn't spend it on booze nor women and i will still have the musket!)

Hanshi as a mentor you are a blood pain, but I love you Hope my stock now meets your approval. Rough sanded again and finished with a dremmil and olive oil. This was the third and bonus stock from my slab of walnut two tubes of araldite epoxy filled the snags but you won’t find it. Nice walnut in the end

it was to be a Gibbs flintlock ml target rifle
1827 but it looks much more like my Riley say 1824. Ha ha
