Did some more goofen around with my An IX pistol, much of it was racing around on an ATV pretending to be French cavalry :horseback:. Funniest part was when some people came to look at a house for sale on our road and they got see a bearded hill billy ride past at 30mph waving a flintlock pistol in the air 😁.

Did do a little bit of target shooting, here is 70gr of Goex Fg under a bare .678" ball. Three shots at 10 yards off a tripod rest. Not the best load but not the worst. Problem is the larger balls require you to clean the bore every 3-4 shots or you will end up with a stuck ball at some point (I normally use .65" balls).

Been working on trying to fit a rear sight from a different rifle on my Crockett rifle. Lots of filing but its in there. Not sure about it until I test shoot and determine the sight picture. Also got in contact with Tom A Hawks on making a peep for my Crockett rifle. I'm thinking that's the best route to take.

Did some bluing touch up on a couple ML's.

Oiled up some others.

I soaked the breech of my 1842 Harpers Ferry musket (1844 lock, 1845 barrel) in a mixture of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) and acetone for two days. I was then able to remove the nipple. Probably the first time it had been out since the 1860s. I also dimpled some .678" round balls and cast some 345 grain .58 caliber semi wadcutters.

Today, I dip lubed the round balls. I also sized the SWCs and loaded 25 of them with 45 grains of Goex FFFg. Got a skirmish in Statesville NC next weekend. :)

I hope to finish loading ammo tomorrow.

To windy to shoot this afternoon so after my nap I went out to my shop and worked on my Kibler SMR. I took the barrel pins out and removed the barrel. Checked for rust as this is the first I had it apart since I put it together last summer. Everything good. Put a coat of barricade on it and put it together. Tore the lock completely down and lubed and greased it as I reassembled it.

Then I fired up my Lee pot and while that heated up I cut cleaning patches. Then cast a bunch of .311 balls.

It was a good afternoon even if I couldn’t shoot.

My first batch of supposedly soft lead was too hard. Now I'm recasting my round balls. Need to find a use for the semi hard lead. Maybe conical bullets

Went to church this morning ... but last evening I finished cleaning my sorta still unclean ML rifle. Then I cheated. I mounted a scope on my only breech loader [] Not nearly as much fun as working with my MLs. I said, some time back, I never wanted one of those new fangled things. However, one of 'em got a hold on my pants leg and I drug it home [for a great price]. I will probably never shoot it, bit it is purty
