After having mixed experiences with RB, wanted to try bullets. Then thought how cool flip lid tubes might be for a more convenient loading experience. Random 25-pack of plastic tubes on Amazon with an ID close to .52 or so looks like it may work out nicely. Lids seem tight, but I'll only load them within a week of using them. 50-cal, 348gr. bullets, 80 grains of RS.

Well I’m home from Friendship! Sorry I missed you all at the woods walk! Ran into a couple members over the weekend though! Did you all still shot? One of my boys thought he heard the announcer say it was closed today???
Any ways the rain threw off our time line. I had the second half of the bow woods walk to finish with my boys. By the time we sat out the rain, finished some last minuet shopping, packed up camp and finished our bow shoot we were out of time!
Highlights of the weekend: My son Ethan won a match last spring or fall!! So he picked up a gold metal and his very own pound of black powder on Sat!! My son Matthias hit the running deer twice in the bow woods walk and had the top score out of a group of 4 he was shooting with!! The three others were older experienced bow shooters!! Then I picked up a nice custom 45 flintlock!! It’s a plain jane but it shoots good!!

I took the bride away for a couple of nights in the bush. Wonderful. The game reminds me that I have to get away for a hunt soon. That croc below is a typical North Queensland Fresh Water Crocodile. He's off the hunting list; rightfully so, a protected species (harmless - very timid).

Time well spent🤗

Did some more experimenting on the practice stock. Did one of the beaver tails and started carving the tang crest. Dug a couple of craters trying to cut against the grain. Very tedious, especially as I’m making it up as I go along. Thank goodness it’s a practice stock. Wish I had 10 of them!
That's looking really good. I'd be proud of that!

D..., wish I could do that! ZEE

@pph That rear sight is too too pretty. Did you make the base?

Yes I did.
That base raised the sight plane by @ .100” … so, I filed .090” off the top to get it back to get down to a relative working height.
I’m sure both front and rear sights will require more work…

Played around with the practice stock some more. I’m going to continue trying different things but I’m already convinced that whatever I put on the real gun will be very small and simple. Nothing like this.

I have been doing the same. The sweep of my gouges don't seem to match the curves that I am drawing. I really want to try the stab carving technique but don't want to trash the stock. In the past I have always used a v-gouge. I guess I need to keep practicing.
