What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Took my brother in law for a walk around of the local rendezvous (Boscobel Wi). Some very nice displays were still up from the school tours.

I cleaned all of my B/P guns and put them back in the safe, all but one. I coned the barrel of my .54 Haines rifle to the point that I could start a ball and a dry patch with my thumb as the coning instructions suggested. When I shot the rifle the other day, I found that a lubed patch was a bit thicker than a dry one and I couldn't thumb start a ball easily.

I pulled the barrel on this rifle and un-breached it for another round of coning. I think I am out of 220 wet and dry paper as well as carpet tape. When I got the coning tool I looked all over town for the right sandpaper, I could find US made sand paper in the finer grits but the 220 at the auto parts stores was Chinese made which is a red flag for me.

I ended up going on Amazon and ordering a pack of US made 220, 300 and 400 grit as well as the carpet tape. Amazon is so successful because they have everything under the sun, I am a prime member so there is no shipping cost and the item will be on my doorstep in a day or so.

I hate going to the local stores, asking for something that is very common and getting a 1000-yard stare from the clerk who doesn't have a clue about what I am looking for.

Received my Kibler SMR today. Wife was so upset about how I took the loss of the Colonial that she went ahead and told me to put it together and enjoy it because it makes me happy. Previously she had asked that I not put it together in case it needed to be returned if the insurance claim for the Colonial was (somehow) denied.

Man, I love that woman. Already got the barrel, butt plate, and lock in. Decided to give it a water pop to see what the wood will look like with plain old oil and I like it, gotta see it in the sun though. Took a couple of photos for you guys in different lighting, wanted to share in the experience and simple joys of putting these magnificent kits together.

Also, holy cow this is leagues easier than the early production Colonial I previously did. Much less inletting (cleaning burrs and fluff out really), not to mention the machined underlugs. Tomorrow night is triggers, guard, and pipes if I have time.

I love you all. Thanks for being such a friendly and helpful community. You've got a friend in me.

16 Year old girl behind the register at our Amish hardware store knows more about hardware than the entire staff at Home Depot. Plus she is polite and well spoken.

I reached 70’and survived cancer , made it, to celibate my birthday I bought a 450/400 double rifle from Bonhams auction. , I was terrified bringing it home, “ how much “ er £5200 oh well if it makes you happy. , last month I bought my 1845 German carbine. , I said £550 she was mad and angry for days. Such is married life.

At last finished , after 5 attempts . My 28 g cartridge conversion breach plugs are finished , well pleased . It’s not that difficult for an engineer, it’s just a new learning curve .
Wet for days on end west of London, so nice to chat to you guys , I got like 2000 likes and a good few loves, so I must be saying something right , many thanks guys , love from the old country , where ever you are .
