It seems like cutting your nose off to spite your face as the old saying goes when we refuse to do business with a fellow enthusiast due to where they live. We should support our muzzleloader friends regardless of where they live. I understand some folks wanting to only do a face to face deal or not wanting to deal with a FFL hassle. If it is legal to ship to someone in a so called liberal state why not support like minded people who live there.

Understand ex CA LEO's can make big $$ in signup and retention bonus's along with big pay elsewhere. Wonder if some of those places that print anything you want on plastic decals are may be doing well with fake license plate decals complete with current looking tags.

As a former LEO in CA, I must confess that I have no idea what you might be talking about.
This enforcement issue is not limited to CA. Here in coastal OR sheriff told me outright we were "on our own" due to manpower shortages.

Again, my decoder ring must be on the fritz. No idea what that means, lol. I'm in a whole different line of work now, and haven't looked back.

One of the more irritating things about gunbroker.com is the number of sellers who snidely proclaim they refuse to ship anything to California until we change our gun laws. Hello? Maybe you should be supporting and encouraging pro-gun people in California, instead of dumping on us?

SO far they have offer thousands on taking the job. (sign up bonus), Thousands extra to stay on job every year, thousands more in moving and housing assistance, More in uniform and equipment reimbursement and now adding to the safety retirement plans plus paid up insurance and other benefits. Hear even with this they are having problems. CHP guy told me they are only responding to big time stuff and recruitment is way off. Glad youre out of it as an exceptional rotten time to be a good cop. Seems good time for bad ones with lots of $$ and job security,

Hi

Ok, I understand now. I guess I'm an outlier on low recruitment/retention theories. I have friends who are still on the job and they complain about all the scrutiny and recriminations. I don't see it that way for the most part. Frankly, if I were king-for-a-day, I'd make it law that your body-cam turns on automatically upon leaving the vehicle and uploads via live link to a server that is accessible by an independent civilian review board--and any sworn officer/deputy that deliberately turns his cam off is instantly dismissed. That would protect everybody, and any officer who can't do his job without intense public scrutiny should consider beauty college. Nowadays, I'm a vociferous supporter of good, honest LEO's, but a MAJOR pain in the ass for the lousy ones. Ex-LEO (know the game) with a law degree (know the law)? They gotta keep it correct with me. ;)

It seems to me that an officer should have discretion in some situations and that is largely taken away by body cameras and a review board.

Many think CA and other states intentionally scare folks from shipping because of their inability to do much else. If so, doesn't that increase demand like advertising?

Dont hate on Ca folks, theres good ones here that just get out voted by big cities. Same as NY state, PENN, IL, now Colorado, soon Texas.
Add OR and WA to the list. I suspect its not the just big cities but the govt who decides what passes BEFORE it gets voted on.

Discretion means giving a light hand and letting little stuff pass. Not the other way.
Yeah,

There's a scene in one of my fav movies, "Colors", where Robert Duvall's character stomps on a suspect's dope and tells him to 'beat it.' Sean Penn's character is incredulous and can't understand why his partner let a potential felony arrest skate. Duvall explains that it's petty ****, and now that 'perp' 'owes him one.' In real life, that kind of discretion was crucial in getting actual policing done. I had a near-identical experience as a 'baby cop.'

A passenger in a felony car stop was determined to potentially have some useful information on a related case. I ran his info and discovered several warrants out for him. I was ready to pounce, but my trainer instead asks the guy, "Hey, you got any warrants?" The guy looks down at the ground, "Yeah, I think I might." My trainer says, "Like what? Anything serious or just ******** warrants?" Guy says, "Yeah, just some ********." My trainer says, "Look. I'm not even gonna check. I'm gonna take your word, ok? But next time I see you, if I need something from you, you have to cough it up. We good on that?"

About a week later, he gives all that to the detective on that other case and the detective calls him to the station where they have the guy on another, totally unrelated beef. My trainer asks the detectives to step out of the room so he can 'talk to my guy in private', and he calls in his favor and has the dude snitch on the much bigger fish in the other case. Long story short, his 'discretion' led to a subsequent arrest and conviction on an attempted murder case instead of locking a dude up on some traffic fines and failures to appear in traffic court.

There were no body-cams back then, though, lol...

As far as being a LEO, had the opportunity to join up in the SF East Bay area back in the mid 60s.
Wife said no. Actually, she said HELL NO!!
In those days, the local Cops had a group called the Cowboys. They didn't take ANYTHING from ANYONE.
And I remember it being mentioned that the ride upstairs in the elevator to the Oakland., Ca. jail is one you hope you never have to take.

Some of the issues concerning shipping guns to California has to do with the paperwork?
And if an out of state dealer doesn't want to deal with shipping to Ca., easy enough to go somewhere else.
Something YOU as a buyer has to deal with and something a seller doesn't.

Yes,

Well, that's just it. Some dealers and sellers aren't making decisions based on any actual rules, laws or paperwork. Just their perceptions of it. As previously stated, shipping a BP gun to CA is the same as shipping a carton marshmallow cookies. I've had this conversation with many sellers who were reluctant to sell to me. Some were surprised when I educated them on the actual reality, and we made a deal. Others... well.... you can't really FORCE anyone to sell you a gun, lol.

That's IT right there!! If it was ME selling and for ANY reason I didn't feel good about a situation, real or perceived, end of discussion! After all, it would be MY neck and License on the line.
Lol

If it's 'perceived', then no, it wouldn't be your license on the line. But by all means, if you decided not to sell for whatever reason (legit or eye-rollingly silly, paranoid or made-up), then knock yourself out!
