One good ear, one bad, got fooled.

I thank God I survived all those years when I was young and shooting without protection and 40 years in the shop and many of those with no protection. I can still hear very well, which is amazing. I started wearing hearing protection after I bought a hand gun and shot it the first time, my ears...

    Prone long rifle

I have never shot my flintlock from the prone position. I did however shoot a doe a couple of years ago with my .308 from the prone position. If it wasn't for the fact that around here in deer season the ground is wet or covered with snow, I would use the prone position when hunting fields...

    My first flinter is in!

I have a cheap plastic short starter and was loading when the part that you can thread a jag into came out and I did not notice. When I fired I noticed a good bit of difference in recoil, started checking around and noticed it was missing. I sent that and my spinjag downrange, never found the...

    cleaning the Lyman breech

Cleaning Note Note: The powder channel inside the breech plug is smaller than the bore diameter and does not allow the cleaning jag to enter. Lyman recommends the use of a .35 cal. cleaning brush and/or a slotted tip cleaning rod to reach into this area.

    switch barrels

I have a Lyman Deerstalker .50 cal flint and I would like to try a .54 cal. I know they sell barrels for these. My question is, can I just buy a .54 cal Deerstalker flint barrel and place it in the rifle and that's it, ready yo go? Of course I know I would have to have the appropriate .54 cal...
