    kentucky pistol holster

over time as they evolved back in Europe they added a belt hook. The pistol was stuffed in the belt the hook on the outside, prevented it from slipping through. These pistols as were percussions were carried uncocked. so were quite safe to carry loaded. Many of the Kings "calvary" , known by...

    kentucky pistol holster

Most of those were belt mounted. But depending on how fancy you want to get, a piece of 8 oz leather 8" wide and 18 " long can form the back. Cut a hole at top for the horn. Another piece of 4 oz leather and some lace can form the loop commonly used to go around the pistol forward of the...

    Pietta Remington Foresight

Hate to be a sour apple here. Not trying to be argumentative or mean and vindictive here. But it appears the op and others missed something. The original owner had to have already removed the front sight to replace it with the modified one shown. It now does not make one wit of difference how...

Replica Arms Colt Walker Ball Size

Some older replica manufacturers weren't very quality controlled. You might have to go to a custom mould manufacturer. Try using a split ball gauge in the barrel first. Go about 1 inch in from the muzzle. See what the land to land measurement is first. Possibly the original owner bored the...

    wedge pin

You may be wise to order an extra wedge as a spare. Nothing ruins the hunt worse than one rifle, and a lost wedge! I had a bp shop for a few years. Retired now, but still stock and sell most all accessories. I try to price below the online big boys, but can't always. However my products are...

    wedge pin

Some models some manufactures do say one way or the other. But in reality it is just a flat bar usually the same dimensions the entire length. sometimes you may have to put a slight bend in it to have it wedge tight.

    Permalyn Sealant

Being as it has Polyurethane in it, which is a plastic Then NO none of the originals ever had it. As long as we are talking originals being made before 1900 at least. the first synthetic plastic was around 1907 and polyurethane around 1937. True varnish has been around since the Egyptians...

    What is a ''belt pistol''?

back in the 16, 17, 18th centuries when single shot pistols were first becoming available, they were produced in various sizes. Some were quite small could be comfortably carried and concealed in a ladies hand warming muff, or slightly bigger in a man's coat pocket, or slightly larger yet and...

    leather wads

no I haven't tried leather myself. But would be a bit expensive for serious day to day shooting at targets. but some thin old worn out belts would likely work for material.

    Cleaning Problem/Dry Patches

what kind of jag are you using? slotted tip or the round brass? Your patch is not a one size fits all no matter what it says on the package. Trim the patches down a bit. If using the round brass jag, tie the "tail"of the patch back to the rod with a bread tie, to keep it tight.

How were derringer "hideout" guns carried?

kinda depends on the time period and where. Some were hidden behind a sash ( cummberbund). some were clipped inside a hat. some a pocket in a coat. And of course the spring loaded attachment up the sleeve. Some a holster sheath inside or outside the boot.

    First Black Powder Rifle

Most forums want you to have an account at Flickr etc. post picture there then link it to the forum. Saves them bandwidth and storage that way. I can see their point, but it really does suck. I don't have and won't have an online photo storage account.. I also will NEVER use the cloud to store...

    Hawkens type rifle ID help

I have a 35 yr old CVA and the patch box is similar. Not exact but close. Most of the CVA's (not all) had two barrel wedges. But I don't remember them having the heavy deep engraving on the lock plate. Lyman is currently using Investarms as their barrel maker. Some T/C did too ( I have one)...

How did they carry cap and ball fixin's?

back before the ACW we would be talking of city dwellers or mountainmen. Cities were basically tame, and people that carried, many times just stuck the gun in the belt, or even a large pocket. Not very likely they would need to shoot let alone reload and shoot, in the case of a single shot. and...

    Rust Remover

question is, where do you get feed grade molasses if you aren't in a area of the country that would have feed stores for agriculture. Next what quantity do I have to buy. What kind of price? Depending on the rust how hard and tough etc. Plain mustard or vinegar will work also. As will lime...

Grandfather's TC Hawken hunt or keep nice?

Hunt with it. Guns are meant to be used like any other tool. Don't abuse it, but a scratch here a ding there becomes artistic and history. History of the hunt you were on when it happened. Mines 35+yr old. Still shoots as accurate as when new. But it's got history. I still see the steep slope I...

    patch, bullet lube

quicker and easier and not as exotic. Plain Beeswax and lard from the grocery store. Perhaps plain olive oil. start with an equal mixture of both melted in liquid form. Blend together let set. test the viscosity for you. Too thick a dab more lard. If using for cloth patches, a bit thicker...
