    Traditional grease

thanks...i'll try the 80/20 mix. A tube of bore butter is around 7 bucks now.

    Rifle Clubs

Thanks. I was hoping to find a range where there was a daily fee to shoot. Paying $20 to shoot isn't the problem for me. Just coming up with hundreds right now is tough. Plenty of BLM land around here, but it's just in chunks here and there. I would hate to be in the wrong place and get caught...

    Traditional grease

I have pre-lubed and ironed it into the strips. I cut at the barrel. I keep bore butter in the bag for cleaning purposes after I have run moose milk through it.

    Traditional grease

Interesting...How much would you mix with large tube of BB?

    Traditional grease

What grease was used as a patch lube in the early 1800's. Bear grease or the like? Also...Is there a grease that will stay inside a patch box (not the kind on the butt of the gun)in warm weather without lubricating your shooting bag? Bore butter gets runny.

Lyman Great Plains .54 cal Loads

I don't hunt these days and never have with BP. I have a .54 GPR that I built from a kit and have found that an 80 grain charge of Goex with a .530 ball patched with .018 pillow ticking coated with bore butter will shoot nice groups at 100 yards. If I were to hunt, I would add 20 grains of Powder.

    Rifle Clubs

I live in the Portland Oregon area and am having a heck of a time finding BP Clubs. All the references for clubs that I have found online that are anywhere near me are dead links. Interesting with Fort Vancouver just across the river, that there is so little BP activity here. I just want to join...

    Cleaning: boiling water vs. solvents

I mix moose milk with water for cleaning and apply a heavy dose of bore butter after it's dry. I also rub bore butter lightly onto all the steel parts for storage. The small amount that's left on my hands gets rubbed into the wood. I then place it into large suede scabbard. No problems.

    Range Rods

I store my rifles with the original wood rods, but when shooting I have 2 that I use. A nylon rod is used mostly. I also have a converted range rod that I cut to length and drilled out for tips thats made of brass. Looks cool but makes for a heavy gun. It is great at ramming tight balls though.

    Lyman GPR Cleanout screw

I have a GPR and this is a foreign topic to me. Ya'll saying I have an issue I wasn't aware of....Great!! BTW....Removing the nipple to flush the barrel is all that's needed. Plenty of flow for that. I actually assumed it was an inspection hole. Silly me. :hmm:

which pistol kit to get ?

I have no experience with the Lyman Pistol, but I totally agree with the Trapper. After the build, first shot at 25 yards was a dead center bullseye. Second shot I thought I missed the target somehow. Turns out...It dead centered again. The Shoot and See target was slightly out of round after...

    Capper

Ted Cash Cappers are great. Best part is dumping a tin of caps in it and tapping it till they all turn rightside up on their own....Well most of em anyway. The Ted Cash Pistol capper is well worth it too.

How many of us cast lead

I buy lead from a local scrap dealer and sometimes they are very large pieces. I use the propane burner for my turkey fryer and a large dutch oven. I then ladel it into the lyman ingot mold that makes 4 1 pound ingots at a time. FYI....A large dutch oven will comfortably hold 100lbs of hot lead.

    Got my GPR today

Looks like a giant screwdriver tip. Sized to just fit into the barrel. I use it to clean the breech with a patch.

    Casting .530 Round Ball

I need a better pot. A bottom pour sounds perfect to me. I never considered pouring into only 1 hole at a time to allow time for cooling. I will try that. Thanks

    Casting .530 Round Ball

thanks guys....Will keep you posted....I have no temp control. I have one of those electric hand held pots. Will try slowing down after the mold gets to temp.

    Casting .530 Round Ball

Howdy folks. I was casting round ball this weekend and began noticing that after a while, my balls were showing a very pronounced center mold line. I stopped and lubed the mold (Lee)with WD 40 while still hot. I concentrated on pivot points and pins. The next day all seemed well again. Does this...
