investarms Hakens .54 cal Stocks 1"?

The answer isn't that simple. The investarms width is 15/16 across the flats, the widest part. The 1" wide GM barrels won't fit. The other issue is the underrib on the GM barrell is a little longer than the stock barrel, not a biggie, you can remove the rib and cut'er down. The GM site has a...

    hand cast ball accuracy?

I've seen no differance between hand cast and swaged as long the balls weighed within 1 grain of each other. I've had hornady swaged in 50 cal have as much as 3 grains of differance from each other. My hand cast even with a small end cast swirl at the sprue plate were never more than 2 grains...

Proper way to fill a Mold?

In the same lines, for hand pouring, is there a method or a reason that alot of my casts on the side of the sprue plate up by the sprue get a little wrinkle? I'm using Lee molds and it doesn't matter which size ball I'm casting there is usually this little swirl wrinkle. I tried polishing it...

    Suggestion for caplock pistol

I've the lyman plains in 50 to match the rifle. The grip looks clubby but is one of the most comfortable I've held. The trigger is great out of the box and very accurate. 30 gr 3F .490 and WalyWorld patch puts it into @ 2" off sandbags at 25 yards. My Sig 220 doesn't do that!

    RMC vent liner

I have one on my GPR 50 flinter and it works great and fit flush with the barrel. The only misfires were when the flint stopped sparking. I'm new to flintlocks but I've fired 70 rounds thru it so far and only 2 failures as above, "I LIKE IT"

    FRIZZEN

This may be sacriligeous, esp after all the do it yourself advice but is there a service or builder out there that can do this for you?

    gpr flints?

If you read some recommends they call for 5/8 by 3/4. TOW says 3/4 by 3/4. But I've found if you use 3/4 by 7/8 long with the bevel down, this gives a pretty good geometry, leaves the fwd edge of the flint @ 3mm-4mm in front of the frizzen at half cock and generally sparks pretty reliably...

Pedersoli Navy Moll and Kentucky flinters opions

Hello gentleman, I need opions experiences for the Pedersoli flinters .45 . i ask because these are on the shortlist for flinter pistols to match up a .45 cal rifle I recently ordered. I've seen the short threads here for the Kentucky version, I'm a little apprehensive as the bore may not be...

    Joined the GPR club!

I can only echo what others have posted. Excellant rifles, I have both flint and percussion in 50 and can keep them in a quarter at 50yds off the bench. The better news is they both take the same diameter balls and patches to do it. Also if you are just hunting paper, 50 gr of 3f is mild and...

    how do ya load

As a practicing ER physician I can attest to modern 20/21st century wounds. Almost simultaneously with bleeding control we administer massive doses of antibiotics and tetanus prevention. even modern "sterile" surgical wounds get infected sometimes. Back then it must've been horrifying to get...

    best made 1858 Remington

My recommendation is the Uberti. The others are fairly close but the one feature of the Uberti over the others is the front sight is dovetailed allowing you to tap in windage if it doesn't quite shoot straight. It also has a minimum of 21st century advertisement on the barrel flats.

    Missouri Bullet Company Roundball?

Not helpful but, I use thier smokeless bullets in a variety of calibers and they have all been top notch, you can guess-trapolate that roundball quality should follow suit.

    Traditions Pennsylvanian .50 Flintlock

Hi, congrats! This was one of the short list guns that I was considering for a 1st flinter. This sells on some of the discount sites for 600.00 and up. The Shenandoah goes for @ 100.00 less. I ended up with the Lyman GPR flinter in 50 and am just getting to use it.

    moulds

I have one of the old single cavity roundball in 490 it actually mics out to 4925 with near pure lead. I had a double 495 but they mic'd out darn neat 50! On my GPR 50 the cast 490 and .018 ox yoke or waly world .020 patches and 50 grains 3F will hit a quarter at 50yd off the bench.

    lyman gpr for rendevouz

I agree with the others. Mine is a caplock in 50 but with 50gr fffg 490 ball, .018 patch it'll shoot into 1" at 50yds benched. Offhand your mileage may vary! Karwelis, that blueing on your flinter is excellant did you do that or have it done?

    Question about Lyman GPR barrels

GM is heavily back ordered but check out thier find a dealer page and call around, alot of thier products are sitting in dusty corners of alot of these shops, I found a 50 40 45 just by calling those dealer referrals. The usual internet sources have been tapped out for awhile!

    traditions opions, shenandoah vs pa

I know about the opinions of the Lyman and tc in flint but I was looking for something in a differant style. Thats why I didn't stay in that family.

    traditions opions, shenandoah vs pa

Hi Guys, I've been teetering on a flinter now that I found my way back to black. I have a Lyman GPR, and a restored TC cap gun and was wondering about a 50 flinter to round off the 1st wave of my collection. I was looking at both the above traditions 50 cal flinters. The twist rate is good...

    pillow ticking question

Here's a wierd thing about waly worlds ticking. I bought the 1st 2 yards on a leap of faith it would be .018. I didn't take a mic into the store then. I washed the sizing off then measured the stuff and it came out to .020. I went back today with mic in hand and the only color they had was...

    "Semi-Automatic" GPR

Thankyou all for the opinions and advice. The gun is brandnew, out of the box. I'll replace the nipple anyways and call lyman for another coil mainspring just in case.
