    Remove Barrel Browning?

That sounds more like what I want to do Bill, and what type of oil do you use with the steel wool? Many thanks to all the other good comments the other folks.

    Remove Barrel Browning?

Does anyone out there know the best technique for removing the browning from my new rifle? I was instructed by someone to just scrub long and hard with fine steel wool. My desire is to get a more antique grey/pewter look Any help lead487

    What Barrel Co.

Don't forget to check out Mark DeHass as a great barrel maker. He built my 50 cal and right out of the box it placed 3 rounds in the same hole on first test shoot. He is a small builder from Missouri but super quality

    Powder in breech after shooting?

I've been shooting long enough to have thought of that. Come to think of it, I oiled liberaly last week and don't remember running a dry patch down before loading. Thanks for the simple reminder.

    Powder in breech after shooting?

I went to the range yesterday and fired two shots in my 50 cal rifle. As I was cleaning for the third shot, I ran a Wonder Lube Blue cleaning patc down to the breech and out came sandy/grainy powder that looked un-burned. Not much but maybe 3-8 grains. Is this unburned powder or prime...

    How do these patches look?

Ha guys, here is a dumb question, how far down range do you retrieve those patches (spent). I have looked many times and for some reason can't find my shot patches to inspect. I shoot mainly 50 yds with 50cal 55g load at the range?? Where is my patch.

    Tips for easier loading?

    Tips for easier loading?

Help me out Flash Pan...I went to TOW site and the offer a wool felt "dry" wad or patch but they do not mention lubed. Is the dry felt patch what you are recommending? I'd like to try that technique

    New TVM............

When my Early Va arrived Aug 12, I also was holding my breath on stock color, but thankfully, I ordered a light honey maple stain, and it came with a beautiful light carmel candy look, allowing the stripes to come out. It so easy to have a rifle stained too dark, but you just don't want that...

    Top Jaw Screw

You just gave out a wise part to carry in the ole hunting pouch. Lose the jaw screw and your day in the field is over. That would be a valuable spare part...thanks for the idea.

    Another E.Va Born at TVM

The catalog at TVM describes this rifle as Early Virginia, but probably cover the general style of mid-18th century to about 1780 I'm no expert on periods so don't quote me.

    Another E.Va Born at TVM

Don't mind at all talking about my new rifle. When Richard called to say my rifle was ready to start, I ask if it was too late to add the star and he said it was no problem. At a cost of $35 and the work only took him about 2 hrs. As for the wood, I originally ordered plain but about 4 months...

    Another E.Va Born at TVM

There ain't enough space to describe how she shoots. Toni talked me into an E.Va for the balance and feel. Boy was she right. Make sure someone gets a photo of your face expression as you unwrap your rifle when it arrives.

    Another E.Va Born at TVM

After a long wait, my E.Va arrived Fri Aug 12. Another work of art from Matt and team. If you have any doubts how a Mark DeHass barrel shoots out of the box...check the 3 holes in middle of target[/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]

    1728 frenchlock

How did you remove or tone down the brown, my rifle barrel is too reddish/brown and prefer an aged pewter/dark grey

    Patch size for .480 Ball?

Ha flintlock 62, I was curious about your comment on the current DeHass barrel material so I called just a few minutes ago. They indeed use a slightly softer steel but its still a super high quality 12L14 gauge steel. They did mention that they were still getting a high volume of orders. My...

    TVM Early Lancaster

Wow, I am so glad that I up-graded to P+ from a plain stock on my E. Va at TVM. It is a fine looking long gun. One week to 10 more days I should have mine.

Where do you find black powder?

In the Winston Salem, NC area we buy from Parks and Son.Inc in the town of Advance. Their phone is 800-992-6504 They have these bunkers out back full of explosives and sell a lot of powder to re-loaders. An old company and still get Goex at $14.95 lb. Call to see if they ship. I drive up...
