    do not heat to red hot :headslap: im sure this would work on knives as well its the same principal as the fire burned altoid cans so many of us use

    im probabally going to catch flack for the breechloader pic but i did this on an old single shot take it down to bare metal with 400 grit and heat it with a hand held propane torch till its hot not red hot about 10 minutes ought to do then let it set for about a minute for the temp to equalize...

    not my intentions to modernize but more a reliability issue that plastic sight was easy to move and made of plastic i dont think the metal rifle sight is to much of a modernizaton

    was there ever a time in history that rifles such as my traditions deerhunter 50 flint or similar style rifles were produced /used if so when and where were such rifles common place its a 24" barrel

    ive removed the cheap plastic sight and replaced my front sight with a hooded metal rifle sight i used a brass dovetail made from an old door hinge and tapped it for a screw then screwed the new sight into the dovetail not pc/hc but its not a show piece its a plastic stock traditions would love...

    Patch lubes

    anyone ever try just plain old petroleum jelly wont freeze or melt(become runny) or cause rust seems like the perfect cheap readily available lube but i may be missing something id melt it over low heat and absorb it into the patches not cover them in goo :confused:

    cleaning regiment

    Not so sure id want to use trans fluid. That stuff gets pretty sticky as it ages. Might make a good lube but i wouldnt want to store a gun with trans fluid in the barrel. ive also been wondering about using wd as a patch lube someone posted somewhere i read that it was no more than scented...
