There are still generous landowners around...

This thread hit a chord with me as this is the first year I haven't had the determination to really try and find a place to hunt. There are alot of public lands around but come firearm season they are full of hunters and the pressure takes the enjoyment out of it for me. I have a farming...

    French Fusil

Nice,I wouldn't mind seeing a pic or two of the french marine musket myself. I saw the centermark offering and would consider it but kind of hoping to get one with a little longer barrel. Chris

    Knife Sheaths

I too have been making center back seam, waxed, sheaths lately. They have been turning out quite nicely and don't seam to be too hard to do once you get the hang of it. If I can be of any help, drop me a pm. Chris

    First roebuck with ML!

Kirrmeister, Ausgeseichnecht! Well done indeed! Roebuck are very small compared to the redstag, american elk or northern whitetail. They are smaller than even florida whitetail. I have a few antique roebuck antlers on handcarved placques/shield in my collection. Alot of workmanship go...

    wing bone calls

I looked into this once and I believe any documentation of slate calls doesn't show up until the early to mid 1800s. I don't have the documentation but I know this was discussed on another forum. As for dyeing, I use onion skins and salt. Nice tan yellow color which hasn't faded yet. Chris

Need help identifying and locating a butt plate

Thanks guys, I am not sure if I will go on and attempt it yet or not. I have done it with other cheaply obtained flinters with pretty good results. I am interested in eventually doing a kit gun, it is just deciding which one to do. Doing one from scratch is intimidating although I would...

Need help identifying and locating a butt plate

Here are pics of the iron butt plate on mine now. Look familiar to anyone? I wondered if it wasn't a reshaped french butt plate.

Need help identifying and locating a butt plate

I recently acquired an ERA cumberland fowler in a a trade. I like the piece well enough but would like to replace the current iron hardware with brass. I have found the correct replacements for the ramrod pipes as well as the trigger guard. I am having difficulty identifying the style, type...

North Star West's Early English gun

Bear with me, but do what you consider Type Gs to be, not have the serpent sideplate? I have Hamilton's book and have looked at the Weber, and the O'connell as well as the Wilson at great length and am confused, are these considered type G's? Thanks for your patience, I am learning and...

North Star West's Early English gun

Thanks for the note Mike and certainly wasn't casting any judgement either way, just clarification for my own purposes. I reread my post and saw it read a little funky and certainly didn't mean anything by it. Good luck with the project, I would love to see pics when it is completed. Hope it...

North Star West's Early English gun

My first post, and I wanted to ask about people's thoughts on early english trade guns, it seems from reading the Colonial Frontier Guns books that most of the examples of guns before what we know as the NW trade gun was developed were made with brass furniture, trigger guard, pipes, and...
