    TC Hawken flinter

See rmcsports.com. They offer a liner for the Lyman that has the hex cone and comes with an allen wrench. Thread is M6x.75. Works fine for me.

    GPR Flinter

The most useful of all the advice on this forum for shooting a flintlock was to use a piece of wood in place of the flint and practice dry firing. It got me used to all the clicking and clacking and the motion out of the corner of my eye that distracted me and caused me to flinch. It did not...

    Groove To Land Width Ratio

I agree. The narrow lands would make for easier loading by reducing the percent of the PRBs circumference that is deformed during loading. There was a style of rifling that uses the narrow lands. I don't recall the name but Roundball mentioned it in several of his posts.

    Pedersoli Flintlock

I bought the Blue Ridge in 54 with a 65" twist. The only problem is the trigger pull which is in the 10 lb. range and I have to use the very light set trigger to get reasonable results. I would prefer a trigger pull of 4 lbs for hunting. Otherwise the rifle with the set trigger is reasonably...

    patches incinerating?

Personal note on patches. Shreaded patches are hard to find because they don't look at all like a patch anymore. When using OPWs I found some at 25 yds because the patch was wraped around the OPW and the added weight from the combo allowed greater distance. I have seen patched just burn up...

    Rifling depth

I have the same experience. My most accurate ML is a Lyman Deerstalker in 54 cal. Twist is 1:48. The grooves measure .004 deep. I was disappointed with Lyman when I first measured it but I hauled it to the range and was pleased with the results. I use 90 gr Goex 3F with OPW, .530 ball, .018...

    Black streaks on patches

I found the same problem. After a good soap and water cleaning I dry the bore, then run a Ballistol wet patch down the barrel. The Ballistol seems to get under the graphite flakes and loosen them so the patch picks them up. I have spent as long as 10 minutes using the Ballistol wipes and the...

    Pillow ticking

Denim has a tight weave like ticking but I find it in different thicknesses than ticking so it is worth a look. I found denim cloth to have a variation of .002 or more over the surface of a yard sample. I think a used shirt will have even more variation.

correct Nipple and thread size for a Pedersoli Hawken 50 Caliber

I have a Pedersoli Blue Ridge flintlock and all the threads are metric. If you bought a 1/4-28 nipple and it would not start, the thread may be 6 mm (.236 dia.). There are two likely thread options, M6x.75 and M6x1.0. Metric threads add a special challange.

What load for my new GPR

There is a place in the Scranton area that sells Goex BP in cans or in bulk. It is listed on the Goex site as a distributer. They have a website which should be identified on the Goex site.

    Renegade .54

I was putting the butt of my 54 renegade on my shoulder and 90 gr 3F hurt. I bought a Past recoil pad so I could shoot in the summer in a tee shirt. I finally took the advice of this forums veteran shooters and started putting the butt plate on my upper arm. No more recoil problems at 90 gr...

    Cabelas Blue ridge .54 Flintlock

I bought one of these last year. Found, on the pedersoli website that the MAX recommended load is 80 gr Swiss 2F. I get acceptable results with a .530 ball, 80 gr Goex 3F, OPW, .013 patch, stumpy's moose snot lube. Three shots in 1.5" group, center/center. Used combinations with thicker...

    Bob Hoyt ..Web Site ???

I think he is running two or three or more machines at the same time and only answers the phone when the machining jobs in progress don't need his attention.

28 Gauge ...Round Ball Size ?

I would choose a ball plus patch diameter that is .006 to .010 larger than the bore ID. This gives a lot of possibilities. The thicker the patch, the more lube in the combination. I had a TC 56SB (.564 ID)and had a lot of trouble finding a combination that worked well. I had to buy special...

    Stuck brush

Coat hanger wire is soft. IMO it will not scratch the barrel. If sized correctly with a screw ID larger than the twisted brush wire and the OD less than the bore dimension, the coat hanger may never touch the bore. I did the coat hanger trick then got rid of all the crimped brushes. The...

    primer

The first one posted does not work well for me with 3F prime. I bought the second one posted because it seems to have larger ports internally to handle 3F. I use the first mostly but wanted the option to prime with 3F if necessary Both are great.

    advice on flintlock supplies

I bought a Pedersoli Blue Ridge which is the Cabela's version of the Frontier. I never found a manual. I have: 1. Exploded view and parts list 2. Suggested Black Powder Loads 3. Muzzle Loading Rifles Powder Charge Selection 4. Important Cautions for Muzzle Loading Shooting I found item 1 on...

    Patch Thickness Variation

The .026 will be the one I load at home and take hunting. The .024 will be in my bag for second shots if required. Thanks for the juice and snot recipes. They are two great lubes.
