    "Turn" on AMC

Hot off the press! AMC announced today that "Turn" has been renewed for a second season. Let the church bells peal!

    CVA Hawken.

There is a hostile tribe of purists out there who will never, ever forgive Thompson Center for naming their flagship rifle the "Hawken", in spite of the fact that it did much to revive interest in black powder shooting. By the way, would appreciate pics of the 30-30.
  3. Black Jack

    CVA Hawken.

I believe he is apologizing for his use of the hallowed word "Hawken". Since that is the name CVA attached to this model rifle, he could do naught else, but there are those who violently object to the name Hawken being applied to any except an original or museum-quality replica of a specific piece.

My collection of black powder guns.

I can't resist a bargain or vintage muzzleloader either. Just factory stuff at this point with one or two exceptions. The herd just keeps growing and growing. I think I have issues.

    MVTC Ranger Bess

Sad fact of life that it is working or starvation for many of the very poorest in these cultures.

    MuzzleBlast

I have a suggestion. Get both and enjoy twice the reading pleasure. The focus of the NMLRA is traditional muzzleloading and is the majority of Muzzle Blasts articles also.

    blowing down barrel

Anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that the cardinal rule of gun safety is to always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. That excludes one's mouth. It may sound corny to say it, but most accidents happen with "unloaded" guns, no matter how confident the carless person is that...

    powder drum not sealed

I wouldn't call it bad, only different. The drum/bolster is a much stronger arrangement than the conventional drum you describe. As to a patent breech, that's just another different system also, and also with a narrowed channel from the base of the bore.

    MVTC Ranger Bess

It would be interesting and informative if you posted whatever reply you get to that email.

    MuzzleBlast

I agree with you on this. Sometimes it seems like the most challenging aspect of these hunts is accumulating the several thousands of dollars it will take to buy the hunt. I'd rather read about a guy who takes a small six-pointer or nice fat does on public land. As far as the Muzzle Blasts...

Arrgghh You Interested in My New Pirate Flint?

As a group, muzzleloading gun enthusiasts love to tinker. Be that as it may, I just never could see the sense in buying a spanking new gun and replacing major parts. If you need to modify it so much, why buy that particular model in the fist place. Of course, this does not apply to getting hold...

Arrgghh You Interested in My New Pirate Flint?

I handled one of these at the Hamburg, PA Cabela's and think they are very attractive pistols. The lock is different from other Traditions locks and looks to have better design and geometry. Looks like a good one.....let us know how it performs after you've had a chance to shoot it!

    Plains Hawken Style Rifles

Okay, lets try to sort out some of the differing advice you've received. I will point out the obvious: namely that opinions are like (a part of everybody's anatomy): everybody's got one. I have a couple also, and they are just that....just my opinion. So here goes: 1. This business about Lyman...

    powder drum not sealed

Bottom line: the CVA breeching system is extremely strong and effective, but, as Necchi demonstrates, is not to be tinkered with. Too many kitchen table mechanics in our hobby think they are qualified gunsmiths and end up creating problems like this. Oh, and, by and large, the Spanish made...

    pedersoli and lymans

Generally very good workmanship on the Pedersoli guns. The quality of the wood is just the luck of the draw with either company. I have a couple of Pedersoli rifles with walnut stocks; the wood is of good enough quality but is as plain and without figure as a barn door.

    Ordered a rifle today.

There are many, many people who are very happy with their Mike Lange rifle. This overly dramatic story smells of fish.

    New Custom .45 Pistol

Nice. Actually, it would be nice to see some more pictures of your pistol.....a whole photospread, if you will...

    Weight of barrels per inch

I believe there is a chart in the Dixie Gunworks catalog that lists weight per inch for various barrel diameters and calibers.

    looking for a kids gun

Another vote for a Mike Lange-built kid's rifle. He produces a custom rifle at a price comparable to a good quality factory made gun. You won't be sorry.
