    .54 Woodsrunner suggestions

I don't have much opinion on coning. I've not coned any barrels myself, but have heard some really like it. Others think it might diminish accuracy very slightly. As far as historical correctness, there is much debate. Some believe it to have been used, while others see opened up bores at...

    .54 Woodsrunner suggestions

Have you gathered patches and check them to see if they are cut or blowing out?

    Other source for Permalyn sealer?

Laurel Mountain Forge (maker of Permalyn) seems to be experiencing some problems. We can't seem to get responses from the company and it becomes frustrating on our end. We are in the process of developing our own line of finishes to bypass this issue.

Barrel Browning with Laurel MTN product

I much prefer the color you got. The real brown color really turns me off.

Missing wood between barrel channel and lock inset a problem?

Uh, no.... This will just make a mess. The hole is there for a reason. Clearance

Missing wood between barrel channel and lock inset a problem?

Perfectly normal even on the highest level custom guns. Not a problem. If I only had a dollar for all the times I've been asked this...

How is this sear toe in your opinion?

since we were brought up, I’d like to make clear that all of our internal lock parts are fully machined to a great finish. The only external cast are the **** and frizzen. We have begun machining the top jaws as well.

    Very nice finish!

    Question About Lighting

I hear a lot of comments about strong fill lighting. I would suggest using directional lighting. It will reveal all of your mistakes.

New Work: Rifled English Fowler Stocked in Maple

Looking nice. This makes me feel better. I know many are going to want our fowler kit in maple and I cringe a bit, but also like to make sales and please customers!

    Kibler 32 SMR

It depends on how loose it is. If not too much you can stretch the sight with cold forging. You might also be able to clinch the dovetail on the sight with a flat rectangular punch. Otherwise a bigger sight. If you are having trouble with the dovetails and sights we provided, let us know.

    Stuck Ramrod

Yes to Pete G. Sand it down. Unless it is an extremely sharp bend, that isn't the issue. If the rod is no good and you need another, just let us know.

Large Siler Lock Jaws to Frizzen Alignment

Having straightened thousands of cast cocks, I can say that a lead hammer works well. I also wouldn't be afraid of heating in the slightest. This isn't necessary though. As to a crescent wrench, it can work fine too. The only downside is that you might tend to mar the part a bit more.

    Kibler 32 SMR

Deeper dovetails are bad. Not correct and weaken the barrel.

    Just Off The Bench

    A beautiful rifle.

Large Siler Lock Jaws to Frizzen Alignment

Bigger than the poor muzzle finish is the big gap between the ramrod and the stock (bad design, not traditional), the poor muzzle cap fit on the barrel and the fact that the wood doesn't follow the contour of the muzzle cap and they aren't fully flush.

    new woods runner build,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yes, I constantly preach to apply finish in many very thin coats and don't let it puddle anywhere. Get after it with a toothbrush or even a 1" paint brush with the bristles cut shorter.

Large Siler Lock Jaws to Frizzen Alignment

If it isn't aligned well, take the **** off, clamp it in a vise with brass jaws and hit the top with a hammer and piece of wood or a preferably a lead hammer. It really doesn't take much to adjust things. Easy peasy. Also keep in mind that the **** jaws on originals weren't typically aligned...

    Wobbeling Hammer

I think the real culprit with these issues is that the **** / tumbler fit isn't proper to begin with. We use a slightly tapered square on our tumbler shafts and a matching square in the ****. Once pressed in place there is a very secure fit.

    Wood grain

It's so interesting. Some people don't mind an imperfection in wood and others absolutely hate them. I generally fall in the first camp. We sometimes have customers who complain about some completely insignificant irregularity in a piece of wood, but then don't do the most important things...
